International Captain
He was absolutely fantastic ODI bowler in the 90s (even a decent bowler as well). He even beat Waqar to fastest 100 and 200 wickets in ODI. Waqar completed his 100 wickets in 59 matches and Saqlain got there in 55. He was an outstanding bowler who never failed to come on and bowl to the batsmen in the last 10 overs. I didn't watch Murali in the 2000s but in ODIs I rate Murali slightly lower because he didn't bowl as much in the last 5-10 overs as Saqlain or Wasim Akram. I am not sure though because I didn't follow him that closely in the 2000s. But in the 90s as far as I recall Murali didn't come on too much in the last 5-10 overs and Wasim and Saqlain always did that. Having said that Saqlain had fallen away in the 2000s and of course Murali is the top choice spinner for an All time ODI XI.

I actually might pick Waqar or Donald for ODIs over McGrath. Waqar was a little expensive but his wicket taking prowess is unmatched. The 1993 tri-series highlights involving Pak, SA, and WI have to be seen to see Waqar's unplayable yorkers in ODIs at their best. Might be able to find those wickets on youtube.[/QUOTE]

Actually remmeber ths series fondly. Every team had a world class pace attack. Remember Waqar playing a match vs RSA and toook a 6 for (all bowled) Also remember Lara taking apart the likes of Donald, Fanie de Villiers, Wasim, Waqar et al.

Pollock or Murali. Garner looks good on paper but in his day ODI's were far different.

International Vice-Captain
Regardless of era and scoring rates, Garner was a magnificant ODI bowler. His record would be all the more impressive had his career started five years later, and he managed to play in a time of more ODI games. Garner managed to dominate despite playing the majority of his ODI career as a 30 year old. An often forgotten fact.

Hard to go against Garner. To watch clips of him bowl you'd think he was the perfect ODI bowler, pretty much everyone who saw him said he was the perfect ODI bowler, and his stats are precisely those of a perfect ODI bowler.
Aren't Wasim's stats better considering the era that he played in? And he was a fantastic new ball bowler and also that he probably had more in his repertoire than Garner??? TBH I didn't see Garner playing too much but from what I have seen Wasim was the perfect ODI bowler.

Was between Akram, Garner and Murali for me. On the whole I think Murali has been incredible in all aspects of ODI's so voted for him.

Murali has been the best spinner in ODIs without doubt and there is daylight between him and the rest of the spinners but I am not sure Murali was as good in the death overs as Wasim IMO. Did Murali always bowl in the last 6 to 8 overs??? I remember a lot of matches where he usually didn't bowl in the last 6-8 overs. I am not sure though since he has played a lot of ODIs.Can somebody shed a bit more light on that?

Akram, McGrath, Garner and Murali will form my bowling attack for an all time ODI XI.
After the implementation of 13 overs per bowler rule?

Anyways, in my AT ODI World XI, my bowling attack will be:

Muralitharan plus 4 among McGrath, Garner, Ambrose, Akram, Hadlee, Pollock, Kapil and Klusener. Now which 4 among these bowlers will be chosen will depend on my team composition.

Hadlee. Kapil, and Klusener over Waqar as bowler????

Hadlee > Waqar as an ODI bowler.
hmm....might be......but Waqar was better an ODI bowler than Kapil and Klusener. In terms of wicket taking might edge out Hadlee too. Only that he was a little expensive than the others.

No, not as bowlers but as players (if I select 5 specialist bowlers then some of them have to be useful with the bat, isn't it?).

However, Hadlee has a very good case of being considered a better ODI bowler than Waqar. He has quite incredible stats. I consider Kapil comparable too, as you know. But Klusener is a clear level below (but his batting more than compensates that).

fair enough. As batters these guys are far above Waqar, Bring quite a bit more on the table.

Nowadays, I am considering this one as my All-Time ODI XI:

Brian Lara
Sachin Tendulkar
Viv Richards*
Zaheer Abbas
Ricky Ponting
Mahendra Dhoni+
Kapil Dev
Shaun Pollock
Richards Hadlee
Wasim Akram
Muttiah Muralitharan

Wasim Akram batting at no. 10, and yet I have 5 top quality specialist bowlers!

Wow.That's an awesome team. Tremendous batting power without compromising on bowling. Dhoni over Gilly??? And Dhoni as captain of this side??? Well Dhoni is a pretty good captain? What about Kapil or Wasim as captains????
