I just want to reach a stage where i can bowl 140 consistently... accuracy and skills are something i can work on but not speed
Prioritising speed when you will likely get naturally faster as you physically develop into adulthood sounds like a recipe for injury though. If you can bowl at 136kph max at 16, you'd already be in the top 5% pace-wise for your age group in the world I would think. Possibly top 1-2%.

It would be pretty amazing if your bowling action looked like Michael Holding. But ideally, you want an action that you can repeat over and over again with as minimal strain on your body as possible. So McGrath is hard to go past.

Harold Larwood had a beautiful bowling action, and probably bowled three or four times as many overs per season as any of these pampered modern quicks without being injured often.

you know that's because before speedguns quicks used to bowl well within themselves most of the time right

Always loved Rana Naved-ul-Hasan's action... until I tried it. Never again. Holding really is the best answer.

E: Jimmy is another good one. Probably closest to what mine used to be like.

imo a normal height guy (ding ding ding typical TH post) trying to emulate McGrath’s action would be flat out getting past 120kph. That sort of stiff methodical action and unathletic run up is not built for speed unless you have top 0.1% on the planet Long Levers.

So did McGrath and Anderson.
yeah and they didn't have any injury problems.

The 'pampered' modern quicks you speak of are the ones who are picked to blast out 15 overs per day of 140-150kph rockets, which isn't something even the old west indians did. They would've bowled mostly 135-145 and occasionally cranked out a spell at full pace when they felt in good rhythm or they needed to blast out a wicket.

Hadlee, Holding, Donald, Lillee. smooth run ups and actions that look natural

Yeah the fastest I ever bowled was using a Mitchell Johnson style sling, where I was probably scraping 120kph. I had a bit of success in 2nds cricket doing that but it wasn't anywhere near enough whenever I got called into prems.

I now bowl left arm orthodox cos **** destroying your shoulder and back for 120kph.
