You mean 1 in every 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 etc. make sense:P
C'mon, that's a bit harsh.
Don't judge a duck by it's lucky. And vice-versa.

So was I.:D
But I just wanted to make sure I defended eddie from any potential unfair criticism. Poor guy. He really struggles with that duck sometimes, and it seems he cops all the criticism for it's wild behaviour and unfounded accusations (ie Inzy run-outs, Rikki Clarke failures).

Ponting last 19 tests:

30 innings, 3 not outs, 2186 runs @ 80.9, 6x50s, 10x100s.

That is the period I was talking about - ok so I got a bit carried away but he is 120* at the moment so if you add that in his average will climb to at least 82.3!

Other batsmen in a similar period:

Lara: 19 tests, 33 innings, 1 not out, 2300 runs @ 72, 8x50s, 8x100s (including 3 doubles)

Dravid: 19 tests, 33 innings, 5 not outs, 1954 runs @ 69, 6x50s, 7x100s (including 4 in consecutive innings)

Hayden: 19 tests, 31 innings, 3 not outs, 1876 runs @ 67, 3x50s, 8x100s (including WR 380)

Laxman: 19 tests, 31 innings, 7 not outs, 1542 runs @ 64, 8x50s, 4x100s

That's how others compare....

Of course as has been pointed out, stats don't tell everything, but it's clear Ponting, Lara, Dravid and Hayden are out in front.

Well if you are talking Test Matches, then it has to be Mathew Hayden. He has been very consistent in this period.

In ODI's, you could throw in Sachin Tendulkar or Ricky Ponting

I beleive Ricky Ponting now averages over 100 in Tests this year now anyway, according to channel 9.

iamdavid

International Debutant
100.2

Only the 3rd man to score over 1000 in a year at an average over 100 , Bradman & Sobers being the others.

Now Dravid , Hayden , Gilchrist & Ponting all average higher than Tendulkar , who next.......... MacGill??

Bazza

International 12th Man
No but you forgot Graeme Smith.

Of course all five that you did mention will surely go down as greta players.
