Best and Worst TV Commentators

As I said earlier, Pommie Mbangwa is not a great commentator, but hes pretty good, and his enthusiasm for the game is a positive.

Most of my listening/watching experience is FTA Ch9 & radio 774.

Richie Benaud is the "Bradman of Commentators" for mine. Summers in front of the telly simply won't be the same when he moves on. He's the first guy I'd invite if I was hosting a dinner party of celebrities.

On the telly, quite like Michael Holding. Tony Greig & Bill Lawry are like Statler and Waldorf off the muppet show - make their share of mistakes but their chemistry is entertaining. Like Ian Chappell's brutal honesty.

Mark Nicholas is a turnip, James Brayshaw hasn't earned it, not too keen on the three amigos (Healy, Slater & Taylor).

Quite like Jim Maxwell on ABC radio and Kerry O'Keefe for some comic relief.

I'm still waiting in hope for the day channel 9 introduces a feature which lets you mute just the commentators

hang on

State Vice-Captain
top tier - johnston, arlott, benaud.
just below - laker and the unsuperannuated blofeld.
2nd tier - cozier, holding, chappell

noone to touch the channel 9 posse for undiluted, yelping patriotism
noone to touch the pakistanis and lankans for atrocious english
noone to touch some of the indians for righteous indignation

Quick dig for this. We've got Murali Karthik & Iain O'Brien in our Sky studio for the India/NZ test series. Both showing good early signs.

No he isn't. Once they had a quick shot of the commentary box while a game was on. He reads one liners(really ****ing ****ty one liners) off a little book with a mic in his hand while the commentator next to him looks constipated. And also a guy that big having a voice that squeaky is ****ing weird.

Mr Shri, the burden of evidence is in you court, until you prove to me that he's taken part in such an obnoxious act, I cannot believe you.

Didn't he beat a chap to death? Quite prepared to believe anyone who is capable of that might read prepared bòn móts from a notebook.

Can I just re-iterate how poor Manjrekar is?

Absolute clown. Only commentator is the world I turn the sound off for. I can see what's happening, I don't need to be told, and then have what I'm told become over-complicated. It's a simple enough game cricket; I don't know where this goose comes up with his theories from.

And he talks incessantly. Just continuous drivel.

Yep good news. Have noticed how much Tony Grieg adds to the team now that he hasn't been there, nein without Lawry and Grieg would be a pretty dry place.

Quite enjoyed Sky this series, despite the presence of Knight and the absence of Atherton.

Must be the getting up at 2am but they have been constantly bickering.

Mark Nicholas' sycophantic drivel is unbearable.
I'm convinced Danny Morrison has not said a complete sentence in his life.
Craig McMillan thinks his job is to critique every fielding set whenever the batsmen are playing well.

Tony Cozier is excellent
Tony Grieg and Simon Doull are good.

Can't agree more.
