Best and worst cricket journalists

No it isn't. I don't know anyone of any age who respects the opinion of Murray Deaker. Yikes.
I don't think he would have so much TV and radio airtime if that was the case. People pay him to talk about sport so obviously there are plenty of people willing to listen. I agree with him on a lot of things and disagree on plenty of others but certainly respect his opinion, as I'm sure many others do.

After reading today's rant against Shoaib, my dislike of Peter Roebuck, pedantic pompous smelly fart that he is, has intensified immensely. Just a wet yellow stain in the knickers of cricket journalism.

Yeah, I read that article this morning, piss poor effort IMO.

"His devastating burst against the Australians in Colombo a few years ago was as illegal as it was theatrical."

"Whereas Brett Lee worked hard to correct flaws detected in his action, Akhtar refused to change."

8-)

Yes! I was just going to post that. Was a shocker indeed.

It's so, so disappointing that there are prominent journos out there who hold such attitudes and values.

Dileep Premachandran, is possibly my most hated sports writer ever. He has written some things that border on Racism tbh. Has anyone read an article called 'Anyone but Little England', by him? Shocking.

Yeah, absolutely dire bloke..

Apparently the standard of journalism as a whole is decreasing, and cricket seems to be at the forefront...

Wow, that's a really terrible piece of writing. Sensationalist rubbish, really.

As much as I do believe Shoaib and Asif are drug cheats, I have to disagree with a whole load of stuff Roebuck says in there. Ask the batsmen who faced him whether it was a waste of time for Pakistan, having Shoaib in the team.

Very interesting thread.
It was. Can't remember the exactities of myself and C_C's discussions but it's fair to say I learnt a bit about India, if perhaps not quite as much as he thought about my own homeland.

Roebuck has always been a bit funny on the chucking issue, he's like the antithesis of the Murali "haters" in that he seems to see chuckers everywhere (including Flintoff - would he have similar comments to make about him?). His comment about Lee is fairly wretched, as Lee was given one of the softest passes there's ever been given when it comes to this issue.

This aside though, I can understand to a degree Roebuck's anger regarding this Shoaib/Asif affair, particularly his getting completely fed up (as I think many longtime supporters, including myself, are feeling) with the former's attitude, along with the belief that he simply is no longer any kind of positive for Pakistani cricket (particularly if some of the stories you hear are to be believed of his physical clashes with his coach). This is a weird case, in that it seems to inspire in many an ambivalence that didn't seem to be there in Warne's case, where most opinions were fairly decisive in terms of the punishment he should receive.

For the record, I'm kinda in agreement with the headline, at least in an international context.

Is it any wonder?

Until pretty recently chuckers were everywhere!
