best and worst commentator ?

I forgot the tow W's , I rate Mark Waugh very highly , got some interesting opinions , knows the game & all the current crop of plauers very well, and seeing as he was in the team very recently he provides an insight into how the current Aussies do things (eg our plan against Mushie was to play him like an offie).

As for Warne he quite simply lacks the vocabulary & intelligence required to make a decent commentator , he is a good player & knows alot about spin bowling (then again so does Richie) but he just aint smart enough.

I like Mikey Holding & Ian Chappell , while I think the most biased commentators in the world would have to be Ravi Shastri & Ian Healy. I dont like Boycott much either.

My Commentators XI:D
1.N.Sidhu
2.M.Taylor
3.R.Shastri
4.I.Chappell
5.M.Waugh
6.T.Greig
7.I.Healy
8.R.Benaud
9.M.Holding
10.K.O'Keefe
11.G.Lawson

note- I picked that on commentary rather than playing ability.

I can't believe Martin Crowe hasn't be voted as worst commentator...he's tried to use the Channel 9 Rugby League style of commentary for a number of years now.

I like Michael Holding, and I don't mind Smithy too much though he whines a bit.

I used to love Navjot, but when he came to NZ to commentate last summer he really started to bug me. It was just too much of him. The novelty certainly wore off. Because away from the funny metaphors and similes he has he talks a lot of crap and is really arrogant.

Yeah Martin Crowe is crap, not made for tele. Have you seen the Advanced hair studio ad, he cant even say his lines without a stutter in the middle!

Yeah Mark Waugh is pretty neutral and Ravi , apart from Marc, is the biggest AA fanboy I have come across outside of CricketWeb.

Actually that gives me an idea, get hold of Ravi as he will probably be 9's guest commentator, and intoduce to him to the AAS and get him to promote it. And Boycott should be used a batting coach at England's acadmay, not a commentator and so should Bob Willis.

Yeah well Crowe is the HOD for cricket at Sky Sports, so he won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

I think Parore will be a good commentator, from what i've seen of him on tv & in interviews he will be good.

Yeah Ravi is almost certain to go to Aus with Espn-Star . I expected Sidhu to go too but in the recent past he is said to have used one of his quotes on Wilkins and since then he hasn't been commenting much though he is still contracted to Espn-Star. I think Wasim Akram will be replacing him..

My favourites are

Sidhu

Sohail - Can't stop laughing when he is on. He was almost verbal fighting with Haysman and Athar Ali Khan of Bangladesh in the last two series.

Slater - I echo rik's sentiments. Really liked his commentary during that India in England Natwest Series.

Manjrekar

Linda

My favourite is Terry Aldernan. He is very funny on ABC radio. As for tv I cant go past Mark Taylor, for his experiance and modern day knowledge.

I was surprised at Damien Fleming once on ABC tv, he was quite good!!

Worst, would have to be Tony Greig. He should just stick with just doing the pitch report.

THAT'S PARORE! *insert dopey Chappelli laugh*

Anyways, my favourite would have to be Jim Maxwell on the ABC... always seems to be balanced and a voice of reason.

My worst... Jeff Thomson. I don't think his demeanour really is suitable enough for a commentator.

Worst-

Ravi Shastri- Sometimes, his comments are not what most of us agree with. He has far too much faith in Agarkar, who is, as we all know, a proven failure. You talk about biased commentators, he's biased towards the Kiwis and Aussies, as he was during this whole series. Not a thing about the Indians' pathetic performance. Just musking/buttering the opposition. Shining their shoes.

The whole Sony MAX team- Indian fans would know about these jokers best. Always fumbling. Half-asleep before the mic. Sometimes talking trash, even off-topic! Luckily, I was able to watch the World Cup, covered by these clowns, on a state-owned channel, who showed the same stuff as SKY.

Certain Australian/English/Kiwi commentators- The're too harsh at times.

Best-

Alan Wilkins A local favourite in India. Talks well. Knows his stuff. Makes useful comments.

The whole SKY Team- They do it the way it was done in the past. Very calm, composed lot, except when one gets angrier than the other when the English are losing. Always good to listen to all of them.

The ESPNSTAR team- This has its fair share of characters. Listen to them in action to believe it.

dunno why people like Agnew so much though
Because he's unbiased, friendly, chatty, happy, a nice guy, and very English without going overboard like Blowers...

Right so that's why the 2 openers are former Test openers Sidhu and Taylor...Shastri batted in the middle order but is brought up to 3, Ian Chappell is a middle order bat and is at 4, Mark Waugh ditto but at 5, Greig ditto but at 6, Healy at his usual number 7, Richie Benaud at his usual number 8 and Holding, O'Keefe and Lawson in the tail? Looks like a pretty normal lineup to me...

As an aside, is Russell Crowe(the Australia movie star) any relation to Martin & Jeff Crowe?

That's not what I meant.

I meant that besides from you Marc, Ravi Shartsri is a huge AA fan. Perhaps I didnt phrase it right?

Surprised no one has mentioned Eddie McGuire.

Oh and if you ever get Mark Taylor and Ian Chappell commentating together it is time to turn off the telly.

I have a classic bit of commentary on tape from Bill Lawry in 91/92 against India in the WSC 2nd final when he almost blows his load when Dean Jones takes a catch in the deep.

Lovely stuff.

Dave Houghton is very good too. Very impartial. I also rate Pommie Mbangwa very highly. I like his voice and he's a very sensible commentator.
