I played the last three games but now I have lost the data. Not a lot to speak of though. Drawing 1 and losing 2.

Holt got the higest score of 144, Sherbourne scored 1401 runs in the season and Ready took 67 wickets.

We beat our previous highest innings against Derbys, in the last match of the season against them again with 487. Unfortunately we lost the match!

New Season

The winter now passed Bedfordshire looked to strengthen their side for the up and coming season.

Treschothick became available and agreed to join the newest member of the league along with Kenway and Gough (not the bowler!!)

With not a lot to choose from Bedfordshire signed their first overseas player A. Khan. A bowling average of 21 should help to improve bowling ability.

With a few other signings Murtagh, inexperienced but better than the pitiful bowlers of last year and Kirtley would all help the bowling line up.

Hall kept many of the youth players who were beginning to show some promise to hopefully establish them as good batsmen and/or bowlers.

Come on Bedfordshire.

Sorry for the delay but my reporter ran off with my secetary and stole the funds to establish themselves in Barbados.

As a result I had no reporter and nobody able to type up stuff.

I have now appointed Rob who both reports and types and he will fill in the story this season.

He has a slightly different style to Alberto (The other guy)

Thanks

Super Cup

Another disappointing year regarding one day matches.

Bedfordshire was drawn in a group with Sussex, last year’s semi finalists, Surrey and Northamptonshire who also got through the group stage last year and Glamorgan and Nottinghamshire.

After 5 straight defeats to match last year’s attempt – The super cup was anything but Super! :@

The games from Bedfordshire’s point of view are not worth reporting.
Batting first in all five matches we failed to hit a sufficient run rate which caused any problems for the opposition. Highest total was against Surrey 250 – 5. They won by 3 wickets. The others were a similar story only the score wasn’t as high!

We’ll hope for a better tournament next season.

Rutland vs Gloucs

We batted first at The Luffenham Oval but Tendulkar got a thin edge through to Pope for a duck,Hulme made a gutsy, slow and exhausting 42 off 226 balls,Leaburn hit 28 from 10 including a 45 run last-wicket partnership. We made 139 all out :(
Gloucs made 482 all out but Hulme took 5-129.
We returned but made a measly 65 with a high score of 28 from Batty.
We took just 2 points from the game.

In other news our rival,Leicestershire beat Somerset by 18 runs including a century by Trevor Ward and a five-for for Crowe.
And Essex and Derbyshire were involved in a rare event...a tied match..Welch took 7-81.

So far this season we've lost all 7 Championship matches, all four National League matches, to Kent in the C&G and all 5 Super Cup matches. :( :(

Some more matches

Unfortunately it wasn't to be with a terrible bowling performance which was rescued for 10 overs but then Derbyshire finished with 236-1 chasing 235-8 which included 96 from Tendulkar and 35 from the new batting-allrounder Hulme.
We stay bottom of the National Cricket League.

We were put into bat at Lords' and Sachin got lots of support from his teammates but they didn't score many runs and after Sachin was bowled for 78 the score was 118-3 and Rutland needed a boost.
We totally collapsed to 181 all out,9 wickets had been lost for 82 runs :-O

Some good news to come out of this game is the former opener,Livingston,he now bats at 9and Pearce's handling of the new ball,no wickets unfortunately but very tight and Pearce came back later and took a wicket and Livingstone also did having replaced him,but a fantastic yorker from Leaburn was also a wicket taker. Unfortunately Livingston coudn't take the new ball so it was thrown to first Pearce then Perham an improving bowler, but on the morning on Day 3 it was the normal new ball partnership that raced in and Livingstone got an edge but with Middlesex at 406/4 the Rutlanders were in trouble, Sachin Tendulkar grabbed the ball and bowled along side spinner Hulme and it was the latter that got a wicket quickly Weston gone for 25 then Shah was stumped for 160 leaving them at 490/6. Sachin took himself off and Hulme trapped Cook infront 500/7 but Middlesex declared at 510/7 329 ahead.

At 80-4 I left the ground in despair that we had not won once,I came back after Tea ,it was 95-5 :(
A nice 55 was made by Smith but we were all, out for 174,and we are still yet to win a single game.

A near miss and so close to a draw

At Old Trafford we were never considered to have a chance but when Pearce found the top edge putting it straight though to Livingstone at 2nd slip Lancashire were at 1 for 1! We but them back to 96/3 and then 106/4 with Hulme on 2 overs 3 runs for 2 wickets. and at 137/5 ,a great catch low to Johns' left but Lancs at 165/6 with D Law in 173/7 took Law out and when Byas edged to the cordon it was 188/8 and a Rutland win possible and at 203/8 off the 45 overs we just need Sachin to shine and we should win.
Sachin hit 86 ,hulme and Smith both got into the 20's but in the most saddening of chases we lost by 3 runs needing 6 off the last over and 4 off the last ball. :( So close yet so far :(

Our next match was at The Luffenham Oval against Glamorgan,we batted first but Sachin was out for 25 never a good thing but Hulme and Smith could be consistent but it dropped away to 85/7 with Smith the opener still in on 31.Smith went and we struggled to 135 all out.
The new ball was again used well with Pearce getting a wicket in his first over making the score 6/1. But then Glamorgan went on a rampage,Dravid getting his 100 and James getting out for 71,Dravid carried on untill he was out for 151 leaving them at 269/3,we recovered a bit 288/4 and 303/5 but we really needed a draw to come but we crumbled to 401/6 and 452/7 but they declared at 507/7 372 ahead.
We were at 80/1 at Lunch but Smith was out first over afterward. Hulme made a handy 17,he was not in the best of form,at 140-3 Sachin needed to make at least a century,it was then 160-4 then 176-5 ,Sachin scored his century off 287 balls and left the score at 222/6.
He was at 125 not out at stumps with the team on 247/6-125 behind.
The score was then 254/8and Sachin started keeping the strike. Sachin got his 200 of exactly 500 balls, but then Johns goes Glamorgan knock off the runs and we lose by 10 wickets .

Here we go!!

C & G Trophy

Round 3 Bedfordshire v Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire's manager, Neil Pickup, was confident of a victory against a side who had failed to win a one day match for 27 games.

Bedfordshire were put into bat and a positive start saw Clough and Underwood put 131 on the board before Underwood went for 70. Clough then went on to make a century and was eventually bowled for 101. Bedfordhsire made 232 runs in all and set a reasonable target for Lincolnshire.
Good bowling followed and soon Lincolnshire were 77 – 5. With a victory in sight the bowling became a little sloppy and Lincolnshire began to add runs. Wickets fell every 30 runs until it was 161 – 8. They were soon finished off - all out for 162.

Bowling figures Kirtley 4 – 34 and Garratt 2 – 25

Neil was devastated!! Bedfordshire couldn’t believe it they were through to the next round.

C & G 4th Round Match

Round 4 Glamorgan v Bedfordshire

Having lost the toss we were put into bat. A steady flow of runs and wickets brought the total to 246 – 9. Kenway and Sherbourne put on an excellent 4th wicket stand of 80 to help reach a challenging total. An excellent attack from Bedfordshire. Glamorgan would have to bat at 5 an over in order to win.

Glamorgan made the most disasterous start and with 4 wickets down and only 8 runs on the board a victory for Bedfordshire looked certain. Things picked up slightly for the hosts as they got to 102 for 6. Bedfordshire kept their attacking minds and soon Glamorgan were 126 – 9.

At last wicket stand of 57 only helped prolong the inevitable as Glamorgan were bowled out for 183. Bedfordshire notch up another memorable victory and cruise into the next round.

Garrett bowling figures were 3 – 22 off 8 overs,
Kirtley 2 – 16 of 5 overs.

Come on Bedfordshire!!

Close but the batting failed and A total failure

We play against Middlesex at the Luffenham Oval in the National League,we win the toss and bat first and went for a duck and we fell to 188/9 off the 45 overs. We got a wicket in the 5th over to leave them 15/1 and then in the 10th to put them 36/2 and then after 18 overs to take Middlesex to 80/3 aswell as in the 21st to put them at 94/4 and in a hole. the 24th over gave us a wicket and the score of 99/5 and some great catching put it to 108/6.
Another wicket in the 43rd over left 186/7 with 2 runs needed the got it and won by 3 wickets.

We played against Sussex in the Championship, lost the toss and bowled first.
We picked up wickets but not enough and not frequently enough and they finished on 528 all out.
Sachin went for 1 and we were in for a struggle then went to 9/2 and 48/6 but Hulme made a wonderful 71 to resurect us a bit and we were all out for 180.
Tendulkar went for 13 in our follow-on and we were all out for 221 and lost by an innings and 127 runs.

Neither here nor there,A OD thrashing and a historic Draw.

We bat first in the National League against Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens.
SRT was out for 8 but we recovered it to 222/6 with 'keeper Johns hitting 65 not out.
They chased it in 42 overs losing 1 wicket.

We then played against Sussex ,we bowled first, but a century from Thorpe, their opener got them to a total of 264/6 a formidable target.
Sachin made 62 and we finished at 190/9 74 behind.

We played the Inter-Leicstershire Sheild match at The Luffenham Oval in search of our first non-loss and we won the toss and batted. Sachin went for 11 ,Smith was out for 22 off 111 balls and we made it all the way to 272 all out and a competitive total.
They batted well into Day 3 and were all out for 492 all out-220 ahead.
Sachin batted superbly and helped us to 291/2 with his score of 155 not out,and our first ever draw. :)

Just done my first season after Lancs decided to sack the whole first team squad...finished bottom of both competitions but discoverd a couple of good players. Phil Hislop Scored 1679 runs in the season and fenton scoered 1553 and took 72 wickets.
