Good choice.FaaipDeOiad said:Warwick Armstrong, perhaps?
I already mentioned him, but I'd include Pataudi given he was one of the best (if not the best) ever Indian captains. Possibly replace Azhar with him if he doesn't fit.Xuhaib said:Just 2 names needed
Think he's already there: "Clive" is at number 3 in the list.pietersenrocks said:Clive Lloyd
You keep saying that and one day, just maybe, you may convince someone to agree with you.silentstriker said:Ponting is one of the best captains in history of cricket - whats with all the ponting hating? The judge of a captain his how much he wins, and whether another captain might have won when he's lost.
Um, Ponting's hardly lost anything, ergo he is one of the best ever.
So, that means sometimes its not, right? This is one of those times .Jono said:You keep saying that and one day, just maybe, you may convince someone to agree with you.
You're so close-minded sometimes SS its crazy.
Problem with a lot of the pre-war guys is that they were not the best available. They were mainly decent cricketers with a good upbringing and jolly good chaps. They were often not even the best amateur players avaialble.Xuhaib said:Some pre WW II names, Goughy?? SJS??? anyone?
I'll go Woodfull. Chapman has a fine record as a captain, but I know Jardine didn't rate him at all having played under him in 28/29 & his is an opinion I value when it come to captaincy. He also seems to be one of those upper class Englishmen who Goughy spoke of; Oxbridge, crashingly good chap, FC record not really worthy of a call up.Xuhaib said:A qualifying match for the 32nd place

Border better than all 3 mentioned.FaaipDeOiad said:Ian Chappell is arguably Australia's best ever captain. Certainly up there with Benaud and Taylor. He should be in the 32.
How do Viv and Akram get in ahead of Azhar and Kapil Dev ?Xuhaib said:OK so M.K Pataudi gets an entry along with Peter May, Azhar is shown the door.
This leaves us with 31, one more name to come.
