Not really its not like every spin bowler averaged in the low 20s, in that era, most averaged in the high 20s or 30s like the current era.

A fair point, but it's not as though every other spinner in that era was averaging 20!

My bad guys, I got Wardle mixed up with someone from way back in the day (turn of the century) when it wasn't anything special to average 20 with the ball. Still, Kumble.

Kumble - wvwn though Wardle must be England's most under-rated spinned because he played in the same era as Laker and Lock (a sort of English Stuart MacGill):laugh:

I fairly certain that Wardle is the only entrant in this battle to have played Minor Counties for Cambridgeshire, so gets my vote for that alone.

It's hard to compare the two really; by all accounts Wardle sounds the more gifted bowler but Kumble has had a wonderful career.
