Battle of the Australians - Mk II

Warne, clearly. Tough on Langer, who I have a lot of time for, but the blonde bombsite is a legend & would imagine he has more "brand-recognition" than the entire current Oz team amongst non-cricketing folk up here.

Top battle, very little in it. Grout is one of our great keepers, many say the greatest. Lawry was one of our great openers, not to mention a Victorian, but will have to go with the guy that played cricket around the corner from me, Warwick Armstrong. Superb batsman, one of the premier batsman of the world in his time, one of our very greatest captains and a top notch bowler as well who could bowl 40 overs an innings no problem (for some ridiculously low runs conceded as well). One of the greatest and most influential characters in Australian cricket history.

Armstrong - Australia's Grace, in build and style if not in actual greatness. But great enough here.

excellent battle. all top notch performers with equally laudable records. i like lawry more for his commentary than for his dour but solid batting and respect don tallon for making it to bradman's XI purely on his keeping ability alone.

but i am going for the big ship for establishing the aggressive, no-holds barred captaincy style which ian chappell and alan border successfully emulated decades later. not just a great all round cricketer but a trend setting personality and a true legend.

The Big Ship here too. Lawry's record is actually more impressive than I imagined, but when one factors in bowling & (crucially) captaincy, it's Warwick all the way.
