Battle of Cricketers II - CW's Favorite Cricketer (now underway)

CricAddict

Cricketer Of The Year
One more group of death :(
Lara and Warne with king size charisma and Kumble with his king size character.

Tough choice, but will go ahead with Lara.
And for the other groups, Donald and Richards.

The Tiger King
damn......all 9 of them are some of my favorite cricketers :(

Guess I will have to go with

Warne
Donald
Richards

The Sean

Cricketer Of The Year
Lara in the first - when in full flow there was no more breathtaking or electrifying sight in cricket, I was always genuinely unhappy to see him dismissed cheaply, even against Australia.

It will come as no surprise that I'm voting Keith Miller in the second. One of my ultimate heroes - all-time great cricketer, outstanding Australian footballer, RAF fighter pilot, nailer of royalty. WAG. He's so good to almost absolve me of guilt for voting against a champ like Headley. I'd feel bad about voting against AAD too, but he's clearly got enough votes in the bank for mine not to matter.

In the third, well it's Viv innit? He won the last one and you wouldn't bet against him doing it again this time around. Just so ****ing cool it's not fair.

I'll take the same, again! Thanks for voting for me Sean and explaining the reasoning with more eloquence than I possibly can. :)

Lara and Richards not difficult decisions

The other one is trickier but I think it has to be Keith Miller, mainly because of the episode The Sean refers to as the royal nailing - even given that Princess Margaret wasn't, by all accounts, the most frigid of royals, it's still something neither Denis Compton or Bill Edrich managed

I think Sean covered BCL's enduring charm beuatifully. Absolute joy to behold.

Going with AD in the second, loved Miller's attitude and perspective, but Donald was an absolute beast in his pomp. His (unrewarded) spell to Atherton on SA's 98 tour was thrilling to watch from the safety of a telly screen in the way only proper fire-breathing quicks can be. Genuinely good guy too.

Kapil in the last. In any other generation he'd have been the world's premier all-rounder and I have fond memories of him smacking dear old Eddie Hemmings for (IIRC) four consecutive sixes to avoid the follow on in Gooch's 333 test. The very definition of "the grand manner".
