Bangladesh in South Africa

Harris has a broken thumb now and will probably be replaced by Robbie P. Apparently he has developed a doosra so he might not be completely hopeless.
All-out pace attack at Centurion, call-up Tsotsobe or Parnell.

Or if not give Botha another go...

Yes I can see all of those working. It really depends on what sort of doosra petersen has developed because if it gets ruled dodgy like botha's old one he will be banned. How has Friedel De Wet been going is he still in the selection frame ?

Bangladesh's batting on day two was particularly naive. A number of the strokes played to the deliveries were terribly ill-advised, and at times it just looked like a complete lack of cricketing nous.

Ashraful, who is supposedly the star of this line-up, I know he is out of form at the minute, but the first over after tea yesterday, he plays an expansive drive, he was only on one,he had no had time to acquaint himself to the pitch or the bowling attack. Poor cricket from someone that should be setting the example. The players were to keen to try and put away deliveries that were not there for it.

Morkel's a worry for SA at the minute, he really is battling with himself to get the ball in the right areas.

I still feel Bangladesh cricket would be much better served by an apprenticeship against top national 'A' team sides. Still playing against quality cricketers, and maybe learning how to win a few games, although I believe they'll still struggle against sides with depth such as Australia, India, England, etc.

more than bangladesh improving, it's likely other nations are in danger of degrading their quality if they play the banglas for any significant period of time..certainly not a good advertisement for international cricket and wouldn't exactly attract new entrants...who would want to get beat up like this again and again and again and...

SA are currently giving Bangladesh a good hiding, and if they played against Australia like they have in this Test, they could be on the end of a resounding defeat, so perhaps they have dropped the intensity that they would need to find against a good side.

Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla did both batted exceptionally well though, and Ashwell Prince to a degree, and while the pace attack have predictably gone through Bangladesh, they have been far from the top of their game, but as we know, they don't need to be to beat this side.

He only bowled a handful of overs but he looked a different bowler today, good control, good pace and got alarming bounce. Unlucky not to have a wicket or two.

I appreciate bowlers don't fire on full throttle all the time, there's so many small technical things that can go awry and throw a bowler off a touch. Just from listening to the commentators and watching him yesterday, there did seem one or two technical issues for him to address, and his action does generally look awkward. Can't think that he'd have managed to smooth it all out overnight, haven't seen him bowl today, but if as you suggest he was much better, than that's obviously good news for him and SA.

It is a track I would expect him to be more than a handful on, taking into consideration the bounce and the Bangladeshi's lack of skill in dealing with such deliveries.

Perhaps for me to cast his bowling at this moment as a worry was too severe ? But there are certainly areas he needs to address before he hits Australian soil as they will certainly be more severe on him should he not hit the right spots.

I must say I've seen very little of Bangladesh's tour and nothing of the Test, but in the few bits of the ODIs I caught Ashraful actually looked very much in form. And this is the problem. He can be playing very well, but make no runs, simply because of his head. He's still the impulsive 17-year-old who smashed Murali everywhere on debut, except the smashing bowlers around bit now seems confined to the odd-5 over stint.

Shakib's bowling has really taken off though. I never thought Bangladesh would go into a Test with him as the only spinner ever, even if South Africa. Now he's pretty tidy and gets the odd one to turn...he should be a real force in 7 or 8 years' time.

Also, can anyone explain poor Naeem Islam at number eight? Impossible task for someone who has made their name in the Rajshahi middle order and only bowled a few overs for their (admittedly very successful) one-day side. I can see the logic - the 7 batsmen above him are all supposedly better bats - but if so then surely there's a slot for someone who can bowl a bit more? Even Mahmudullah. Suhrawadi Shuvo will be the next on the list, I guess, and there's 16-year-old Nasir Hossain for the future.

Perhaps he is form, but at the moment he is not staying at the crease long enough to demonstrate it in Test cricket. Think he registered about 2 runs in the recent two-Test series against NZ.

Yes he has bowled well, managed to get more turn out of the pitch than Harris, and has looked pretty threatening on occasions. With his skills with the bat he is developing into a pretty decent all-rounder, but still plenty for him to work on with the bat.

naeem is a good bat by BD standards, definitely should be batting higher up the order, reckon he'd make more runs than some of the others up there if he was given the chance. rahim and shakib have been in decent form lately as well so wouldn't be against moving them up a spot or 2 atm

Just found this piece by Neil Manthorp. Quite interesting re. Morne Morkel.

My personal opinion is that all this technical stuff has merely caused him to slow down in the action, which may cause him to push the ball down leg side after losing the momentum from the run up - seen this happen to a similarly tall friend at nets.

The key is that technical changes cannot be made anywhere near a match. It is a long process of building up the speed and working accuracy into the changes and getting the body used to the changes. Although I am sure the SA coach had the best intentions and has infinitely more knowledge than me in this regard, short term changes are usually counter productive and rarely stick in the long term.

Steyn has 59 wickets from 10 tests this year so far...Ntini has done well as well!

Good win for Proteas! Lets hope Kallis can score a big ton in next game, Proteas need tons from him and not those 3-4 wickets / test!
