Ball Tampering

Shoaib Akhtar found guilty of ball tampering, do u think a bowler like Shoaib needs to tamper with ball at his pace and an opposition such a Zimbabwe.

No but Darren Lehmann was treading on thin ice in the first test match. I think the match referee should have said something to him afterwards - you know a quiet word in the ear job.

Its on cricinfo. Well, they did struggle didn't they ? no swing for any bowler except Shoaib. But really, he gets more swimg anyway, why tamoer the ball ?
I guess if he did it he wanted to end the match pretty quickly. No justification though.

Yeah but i think shoaib has enough pace that he can swing a ball thats shining from one side and a bit rough on the other but anyways a bowler like shoaib who is always under attack for one thing or another sould be a bit more careful.

Just in retrospect, do you know that some time back the general thought was that a bowler with genuine pace couldn't swing the ball. Pace was supposed to be a bane for the ball to swing. Perhaps a not so complete knowledge of how actually the ball swings. But Imran and other bowlers of that era changed all that.

Prodigious swing though can be achieved only by constant wear and tear, which happens through the course of the match, but if you accelerate that process then its not fair. He has been reprimanded hope that keeps him away from getting naughty again.

Waqar was once asked about the ball tampering issue after he was caught doing it and he said
" They just catch and punish us (the Pakistanis) because we can really swing the ball like no one else can, the other teams do it too but they still cant swing the ball like we can" 8D

yeah that is the biggest difference between the Pakistani bowlers and the others. They are the masters of swing, especially reverse swing.8D

Errr, did you ever think that's WHY he gets swing at all? :D

I personally don't have a problem with 'ball tampering'. In fact, this was quite a large debate on here a few months ago. I figure, whatever someone can do to help them ply their trade is fair game, provided they only use what they've got and not bottle-caps etc.

And as I pointed out at the time, if they try tampering with the ball and the bugger it up so it doesn't swing at all, then they have to live with that too. It works both ways, in my book.

Yes agreeing to before view again

Why does a person like Shoaib Akhtar who is one of the fastest bowlers ? need to tamper a ball , and when that isint allowed in world cricket , why do it when you know that there are 100s of cameras capturing that exact moment ? why be in trouble ?

through tampering the ball ? On the field the whole Pakistani team performs a ritual. No matter to whom the ball goes, its an obligation to shine one side of the ball. Guess thats why he gets swing. The whole team benefits from that. Maybe they even have some special traits and tacts (which are out of the definition of tampering!) Waqar gets a natural outswing. Wasim has been swinging it both ways as well. I see no other reason why Shoaib gets the swing..............

But as I said earlier, to get prodigous swing that 'tampering' does come in. Also Imran when was defending himself against Botham and Lamb stated that if what we do is ball tampering then the English have been doing it for a century.
I totally agree, barring external consraints, the fielding side should be allowed to 'use' whatever they can.

Whats more..why did he even need to do it against Zimbabwe? I guess he thought that because he's in Zimbabwe nobody will give a toss or notice him.

Unfortunately even though Shoaib has tremendous bowling ability he sometimes lacks the brain to go with it.

I did not saw the match but am wondering as to how the umpires came to the conclusion that it was Akhter who tampered with the ball and not Waqar or the other pacers? Was Akhter caught tampering on TV footage??

Waqar has been involved in tampering in the past, such a captain will encourage his bowlers to break the rules.

Though Zimb would have lot the match anyway, there wasn't any need to do such a dumb thing . I guess after the thrashing Pak had at the hands of Aus, they were really desperate for a win!

So you think Akhter was tampering the ball right in front of the umpires ?:D, the umpires only saw the ball that had already been tampered ( i'm not questioning that) but surely they weren't watching Akhter altering the shape of the ball!

I'm calling it as I interpret the media reports - from what I gather the umpires had the evidence to report him, so they must have seen something.
