Baggy Green ball tampering: Bancroft, Smith and the Aussie "Leadership Group"

IFSmith is not hiding anything else more from the public (not sure), & he really is truly sorry for his actions (which I believe he is), then he/they should be forgiven (but not forgotton) and given a second chance.

It was a very public shaming wasn't it?
Yea..I felt sorry for him, but if it leads to the cessation of this bloody long running blight on the game..Its a casualty worth bearing....
I won't boo him if he turns up at Headingly in the future, I'll maybe giggle at the more humorous banners or placards that are held up, just as a reminder.

They won't even be funny now. The escalated rhetoric and punishment has taken all future humour out of this situation.

Nah..they will...especially if we get an inflatable hand, holding 4 fingers up with sandpaper in the middle.....................

I am also going by what Fannie said & a graph on reddit which correlates the amount of (reverse)swing after a certain number overs, that Aus got consistently in the last few tests.
Graph sounds fascinating - got a link?

I think in the present setup Lyon is closest to this ideal. He’s one guy who showed true Australian grit and attitude - one who rose from being a groundsman to one of the most successful bowlers for his country - and continuing to improve with each match. That is a byproduct of his commitment and inner strength that others can feed from. I have no idea whether he is a great tactician... but tactics can be supplemented by the dressing room.
lyon like warner has shown himself to be an absolute turd human on too many occasions. would be a horrendous appointment and more of the same.

the real tragedy is that indias chance of winning in australia just went up plenty.

the gloating however should they lose again....

Ugh, Smith press conference sounds awful, not going to watch.

CA will know though, that the sympathy this media circus engenders towards Smith is helpful. The redemption story for him and Bancroft is already underway. Not so for Warner, but it's a close to a zero-sum blame game between he and Smith and it's clear which way that's going to go. The more that Warner can be painted as the mastermind (two words you never thought you'd see together) who was out of anyone's control ('gone rogue'), the better for Smith and the other team-mates. Smith inevitably looks like a weak leader and even a naive but well-intentioned giver of post-match press conferences to protect his team-mates (which goes a bit far), but that's better than being seen as an out-and-out cheat. That will be heaped on the escape goat as much as possible.

Smith meanwhile will serve out his ban and then be reintegrated in a year's time with a few media puff pieces and some airbrushing, and will likely pick up where he left off, sans captaincy.

Honestly, Smith's presser showed he should have never been captain to begin with. Guy sounds like a sheltered 18 year old. Very juvenile and the opposite of shrewd.
He's not a man that can be a good leader of men

Some part of me respects Warner for not crying. He may he a bastard, but he's a tough bastard

Twitter has convinced me of something this morning

It's clearly impossible to want punishment for something and yet feel sorry for the person receiving that punishment as a human being, without being a hypocrite yourself.

You should all hang your heads in shame.

I.e. nobody on Twitter has ever been a parent.
