Baggy Green ball tampering: Bancroft, Smith and the Aussie "Leadership Group"

The stepping on the ball one - I've never really been convinced. Unless maybe it happens early on before you've really got a rough/shiny side as there's too much risk in putting the spike in the wrong spot.

If it's early enough that there's no real rough side that you've settled on, then it's probably worth it to take a chunk out of the ball.

So flimsy ...

Sparky basically saying that they only had to say - look at SA's score we obviously aren't ball tampering lol
Like I remember the incident but don't remember that defence. Holy **** how on earth did anyone believe that.

This is so poor. So, so poor.

To salvage some positives:
Bancroft was a bit of a fringe player anyway. No guarantee he would have survived another series even.
Warner would likely have been dropped anyway. Im not sure the quality of his batting is enough to make up for the trouble he's causing. Let's lie to ourselves, pretend this happened and rejoice that we don't have to deal with his repugnant nature anymore.

Unfortunately I can't think of a way to justify the loss of Smith as a bat

I guess the punishment was expected

But now I am thinking that the Internet - particularly YouTube is not ready for an Indian test series victory in Australia

God help us all

Expected in the sense of 'you don't want to believe such monumental stupidity exists but it is slowly and surely dawning upon you that it does'.

If that happens I think I will have to avoid anything cricket related for about five years.

Sutherland confirmed it was actual sandpaper and said the comments in the press conference contained 'an element of mistruth' :wallbash:
Yeah it's in the charge sheet that it was sandpaper. They straight up lied in the press conference.

So if they lied about that what else did they lie about?

Cause they've done it. Confectionary doesn't just appear in your mouth and get applied to the ball randomly, it requires some forethought.
Yep. taking sweets onto the field has never been done before or since....because Faf was quite clearly trying to hide the sweet, the argument from SA was not whether he had or did not have the sweet in his mouth, it was 'if this in not allowed, then why are a number of other players not getting into trouble for it".... and yep, Faf went to New Balance with a piece of sandpaper and said. hey could you create a zipper with this grit to polish balls with....

Wtf was even the point of that lie? Did they think saying tape instead of sandpaper would make it less bad? This is so odd.

And that's not addressing the issue at all. You've been quite disingenuous about this whole thing with respect to your home/part home team's past actions.

How? I have said repeatedly that Bancroft got the same punishment that Faf got from the ICC? Smith effectively got done for lying to the umpires.....The fact that CA and Australian public have overreacted is not anybody else's fault?
