Average players suddenly becoming very good

Yep. Watling would've been lucky to average 25 as an opening bat over a decent period. Had so many flaws in his game. To take up the gloves (admitally he'd done quite a lot of it in the past) while at the same time ironing out some of those deficiencies in his batting was remarkable really.
