question: Who do we think is the no 2 spinner in Aus? I'm starting to think Jon Holland might be right up there tbh

I am NOT a fan of all this Aaron Finch test talk.

Being able to slog on flat pitches and clear small boundaries =/= good test player.

If he can consistently do well in the shield over the next 2 seasons then I would be delighted to see him have a shot. But at the moment he should be well behind Hughes, Bailey, Khawaja, White, Klinger, Wade, Burns, Maddinson, D Hussey, Fergusson and others. That being said, our selectors seem to have an enormous boner for him at the moment so anything is possible.

Edit: Plus Voges, Cooper, Marsh, Doolan etc. Basically anybody who can bat and doesn't have the initials GM (Greg Mail excluded).

Can't have it both ways
While it's true that he can't exactly have it both ways with the argument he's made - "consistently do well in the Shield" - there are definitely some massive differences between Bailey's case for selection and Finch's.

Firstly, if you're going to pick someone for Test cricket on the strength of their ODI career, make sure they've actually had a good ODI career. Finch has played 15 ODIs against other Test nations and he averages 24 in them without a ton to his name. His official average is inflated by a big innings against Scotland. Bailey on the other hand has been legitimately awesome in ODIs.

Furthermore, while Bailey had a very poor Sheffield Shield campaign last season, he's by no means ever been a limited overs specialist. In fact, before he got picked to play for Australia in the first place I reckon he would've four day cricket was his biggest strength. Finch struggled to keep his place in the Victorian Sheffiled Shield side.

But yeah, you're right in that if you're going to call for consistent Shield performances in order to make the side, Bailey is out. As are a few of the others he mentioned.

Could you clarify your stance on the Mailman, the disclaimer was ambiguous, and it is crucial.

Would have picked 5 copies of Greg Mail if we had cloning tech. Unbeatable XI.
