Will Langer be safe?
Nah I reckon he could be gone.

IMO the casualties will be Langer, Starc (just from the eleven rather than the squad though) and Wade (duh).

Paine and Lyon will survive despite casual kneejerks due to lack of other options more than anything else.

Will Langer be safe?
Lot less safe now than this time yesterday

As I said, a draw would have been disappointing but they could have still build something from that like the WTC but this defeat has definitely put cat amongst the pigeons big time

Patterson isn't really out of form, he just doesn't have a narrative saying pick him at the moment, partly because he missed a lot of last season with injury. He's only played 6 FC games in the past year with a top score of 94* for Aus A, and a 50 as well. He also has two scores just below 50, and another two starts he's not gone on with on. So a lot of starts, no big scores....which is kind of a long standing problem for him

I don't see a world where Langer is sacked.

he might resign, but he won't be told to go

Yeah it's not so much "out of form" as it is "hasn't really made any runs".

unless ponting tells CA he wants the gig, I don't see it

and I don't see ponting doing that

I think Paine will survive due to lack of alternatives - I'm not really not a big fan of his tactics though

I imagine theyll look to experiment with Patto finally starting in the XI - You can't justify a 'left hander for footmarks' if he's spraying it everywhere

Obviously Wade will never play tests again

I'm a big fan of Moises so maybe a tad biased, but surely he deserves a look in? Excellent form in the Sheffield Shield, looked composed in the ODI's/T20 and just his overall demeanour and clarity of thought when batting looks notches ahead of Head/Wade

Patterson as well should definitely come back into the equation, maybe Renshaw if he starts to find some form
Wonder what could have happened had they persisted with Renshaw for the last home ashes. He was settled in the side with Warner after two subcontinent tours where he held his own but had an absolute stinker in the shield and Bancroft scored mountain of runs. But Renshaw's position then was not too different to Burns now.

Who knows some blokes thrive at international level. Bancroft did **** all anyway and it could have atleast avoided the sand paper gate

While Langer is well down on my list of people I want coaching Australia, I have no idea the ones that might be good at the job (Gillespie, Ponting) would actually want the job.

Surely they aren't the only two?

I think a coach who pretty much did nothing would be better than Langer's influence which is likely negative, and this has been my long-term position. I'd rather let you do it.

Wasn't there an Ashes series (maybe 17/18?) when Renshaw was dropped and cast aside for some nondescript reason? Or maybe Langer thought he didn't have the temperament or maturity for a series of that magnitude, but not sure

There was that infamous incident in the UAE when Renshaw was put in at short leg and subsequently ruled out the tour when he got hit

IIRC Bancroft jumped the queue before the 17/18 Ashes because he had a few great Shield matches and Renshaw didn't. Then he got injured for that UAE tour when he really could've established himself in the side....and promptly lost all form.
