If you binned Paine and gave Wade the gloves you'd probably strengthened the batting and the bowling by doing just that.

Ehh, in his last stint in the side as the keeper he really wasn't that bad with the gloves. Certainly Lyon had no problem sweeping through India and Sri Lanka with him behind the stumps.

Shows how awful he was when he first started out. I agree that him and Paine are pretty even at this point (nothing special but both adequate)

Who would captain if Paine drops out? Wade doesn't strike me as the right type of character, and Head seems still a long way from truly establishing himself in the side, while Khawaja seems to be nearly as close to getting the axe as Paine. Lyon maybe - though it's always best to have a batsman to make objective decisions about who should/shouldn't be bowling.

It's genuinely amusing to hear him call for more aggressive field placings tbh. He's rarely wrong, but it wasn't exactly something he was famed for as captain.

I suppose Finch as a middle order batsman and captain would never be considered? I know he got runs for Surrey in the last 4 day game he played although unsure about how he has done in previous middle order batting outings.

Lazy, apathetic body language. Isn't going to inspire effort at the end of a long day in the field. Just coasts along on his natural ability. Appears to not value his wicket as much as he should. Lazy and poor fielder. All attributes I don't like in a captain.

Would much prefer Cummins if the only two choices were him and Khawaja. Would definitely prefer Head, Lyon, Haze, or even Wade, if it boiled down.
