Absolutely.
But selectors in Australia almost never pick the wicket keeper based on form. Carey has been anointed as the next all formats keeper, despite him being a worse version of Hartley, who never even got one international game.
Truth is that Wade should be the short format keeper and Paine the long format keeper.

All decisions re. Carey's selection seem to be almost entirely based on personality/potential rather than actual performance. He's been solid at the domestic level but not the kind of outstanding you'd need to be for the effect it's had on the selectors.

They have brought Jhye Richardson in. Good move imo, still pretty inexperienced at FC level but I think he has more to him as a bowler than the Tremains and Nesers of the world

I would select Richardson over Siddle. However, if there was a last minute injury to Starc or Cummins, Id like Siddle being there over almost all other quicks. I know others would disagree.
Now for the bats and it was pretty embarassing seeing KPat dominate with twin tons over the bats selected in the Aussie squad. I actually have no idea which of the A bats wont play the First Test now.

Pretty underwhelming stats but you missed a couple.
Paine has the worst captaining record of any Australian WK (7 tests, 1 win)
If Australia don't win at the Gabba, Paine will have the worst win % of any Australian captain in history (that captained more than 3 Tests)

I don't think Australia's terrible coaching, selection and ban issues should really count against him.
