Australian Off Season 2017

Like social, I'm currently wondering what exactly was stopping CA from offering this deal six months ago...

BARNES OUT
They probably thought they could strongarm the players into a worse deal like the NBA did to its players twice since 2000, but they failed miserably and conceded.

Reckon the person who comes out worst of all this is Kevin Roberts; negotiations went absolutely nowhere when he was running it for months on end and once Sutherland got involved it actually got done. Hard to see him being CEO as touted after this failure and the dislike that will exist towards him from the players (especially with that infamous video).

Yeah, funnily enough this might end up keeping Sutherland in a job for longer. The heir apparent walks out of this looking a lot worse.

The big thing to come out of this at end of MOU will be the difference in definition of revenue at the beginning (of which ACA wanted 22.5 IIRC) and that agreed upon at the end of the process at 27.5%.

Spikey, reckon that this means that the Digital Arm revenue might be separated from this amount. It certainly would have been in the previous MOU. My understanding is that most of the additional revenue was as a result of the successful 2015 CWC.

Whatever it takes!!!
Just sounds like the biggest win Australian cricketers have had in recent years. CA well and truly screwed over, unless they try to be clever about what defines which revenue and so on. Was the thought that if it all went to arbitration the players might win out force this deal on CA's side? Or was it simply the pressure of the looming India series and CA has already pissed off BCCI by voting against them during the ICC meeting?

this effort is probably the first good stonewalling effort from Australian players in the last decade tbh
It's Renshaw's dressing room presence. Young fella showing everyone how to go at a strike rate of 20 before exploding once the opposition gets tired.

Original offer by CA was $480 million

Landed at $500 million

The important things for me are that (and I think most of these have been achieved)

- The top tier are rewarded handsomely which they always have been for the last 10 years. Cricket is such a hard game to master, and the elite guys who we love watching are exceptionally talented and incredibly mentally tough. They deserve every cent, and in a sense this dispute has never really been about them

- Uncontracted players (domestic level) are paid well (which they are with the average wage now being about $250 000), so they can be full-time and dedicated 100% to cricket. It's also important to pay them well so that cricket is seen as an attractive career path financially. So rather than going to University or straight into the broader workforce when a talented cricketer is 18, they choose a State contract instead.

- Cricket facilities at a local level are up to scratch. This needs a lot of cold, hard cash

- Registration fees for kids are kept as low as possible (a huge, hot-button issue for parents)

- Cricket remains accessible (lowish ticket prices...as most of us fell in love with the game by attending it)..

- Cricket remains on FTA TV

So Pattinson is out for Bangladesh. What a shame. The way he's been tearing up the state/county scene I would have loved to see him get a run before the Ashes. Alas, he likely won't get a chance to play in the Ashes at all if Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins are fit.

Sidebottom did well on debut for Warks, good to see. A real chance to carve out a spot for himself, with them struggling at the moment. Even if it's not with them next year, hopefully someone will pick him up.

In August's All Out Cricket magazine, British publication, there is an article on the great Western Australia side of the 1970s. Quite a good read if you manage to find it.

Surprise surprise Chris Lynn not offered a contract by Queensland.
I'm not really surprised.

Hasn't played a List A game for them in a few years IIRC and has hardly played in the Shield the last couple. Add this to the fact that he won't even be available until after Christmas and seems to mostly be focussing his career on T20 leagues and it would be surprising if they did offer him a contract.

Watching the highlights of the intra-squad match, any technical types wanna explain how Smith manages to get so much power on his cover drive? Bloke is taking the piss right now.
