Australian Domestic Season 2022-23

I can think of:

1. Hunt
2. Ward
3. Khawaja
4. Maddinson
5. Silk
6. Doran
7. McAndrew
8. Manenti
9. Conway
10. Bird
11. Behrendorff

Khawaja's admittedly a cheat because I think NSW wanted to keep him and he was an established star when he went to Queensland (as is Behrendorff as he doesn't play FC cricket anymore), but still it'd be embarrassingly competitive.
Honestly cut out khwaja, add solway and you'de still have a squad i'de back to beat this NSW side and half of the sides running around the shield atm.

TBH I can see Caleb Jewell maybe making a run for a test spot too. I think he's got a ton of talent, though it looks like we have a few good up and coming openers compared to middle order players rn.

Abbott's transition from #9 to genuine all-rounder was so sudden and weird. He averaged 15 for his first 50 odd shield games, then all of a sudden he decided he was the best all-rounder ever and has averaged ~50 w/ the bat in his last 15 shield games.
Where has he been batting in grade cricket over the years?

Mostly 5 for Parra I think. 4 and 6 sometimes.

He was meant to be a batting allrounder when he first debuted for NSW but it didn't work out. It's more late blooming than anything else I think. Just ask Mark "Sabba is the top 10 bats in Australia even when he's batting #9 for NSW" Waugh about it.

Warner has been a very good/great player for Australia

Underrated if anything because he’s a ****

Time to move him on IMO

Windies bowling attack isn’t bad at all but there’s tougher tests than them

Yeah he batted 5 in the Premiership winning side a few years ago iirc. Made 60 odd.

So, what's the pecking order for openers right now with khawaja and warner both likely to call it quit's in the next 2 years?

I think it should be

Whiteman>Hunt/Ward>Renshaw/Street>Jewell>Harris

but I think it will end up being

Harris>Renshaw/Hunt>Ward>Whiteman/Street>Jewell/Street>Street

Unsure of how street fit's into the actual pecking order atm tbh, he's done well for Aus-A and has a solid shield record, but can't get a game for queensland, and may not open when he does (even when the test guys go, Burns/Renshaw will most likely open given QLD's selection this season).

Yeah I'm surprised looking back at the stats on that season how many games he played for Parra. I think he was more around the fringes for NSW then. He made a ton in one of the round games as well.

You just know they'll give Harris first crack. Then Renshaw again.

Personally like Renshaw and hoped he would have kicked on but I'm not convinced he's fixed the issues which got him in strife at test level in the first place - haven't watched enough of him batting for Qld. But glad he's in some form at least.

Just added Parra to MyCricket

If correct, he hasn’t batted for Parra in 2 years

That’s sad albeit understandable

A complete scrub like me used to play against test players all the time and it was generally a great experience

Chased a lot of leather and wore plenty but game was better for it

Renshaw is in no form

He got 200* on a complete road & can’t score a run elsewhere

Still has same technical problems he had years ago

Yeah that would be about right now he's been around the LO squads so much, and a regular for NSW.

On the topic of Renshaw, wouldn't mind seeing him at #4 in the ODI team. Made lots of runs in list -A at that position in the past year.

Renshaw is really talented and absolutely smashes the ball

I just don’t think that he’s a red ball opener

Can actually see him being a gun in white ball stuff as he’s so powerful, bowls useful filth and is a top catcher

I'm substantially less optimistic. None of these guys seem able to average more than high 30s except Pucovski, who I'm counting out. Same problem of a lot of fifties and not many hundreds.
