Australian Domestic Season 2022-23

Swepson is terrible at one day cricket but before he had that neck injury he had really improved as a four day bowler, and he has bowled a couple of really good Test spells. I'd definitely pick him ahead of Kuhnemann in the Shield, he gets a bit of an exaggerated bad wrap on here IMO.

NSW top order really getting it done yet again. ****ing useless.
Dan Hughes is so annoying. Starts every season looking like a gun Test bat getting some match practice in the one day comp, then immediately starts nicking off and falling over when the Shield starts and continues to fail all season until he's just about to be dropped, when he promptly hits his annual end of season ton in a losing cause. Obviously still good enough to be selected given the rest of the shower but fmd it drives me insane how many times we've seen this movie.

Another excellent Manenti-McAndrew partnership here

Who even needs a top order?

EDIT: fmd typical, every time I say something about good South Australian progress it has to backfire on me

It's not even a joke, Manenti is just one of their better bats tbh. Back him over Carder or Weatherald

the reason that swep gets a bad rap though is because a flat leg spinner that doesn't turn it is probably the worst type of bowler you can be at test level anywhere let alone australia

there is a reason samuel badree has 0 test wickets to his name

This is a bizarre take tstl. Weatherald may be frustratingly inconsistent, has arguably underdelivered a bit from what it looked like he was capable of earlier in his career, but he is a loooooooooooooooong way from the biggest issue in this SACA setup. Considering how much of a struggle it has been to find an at least semi stable opening partnership over so many years it would be absolute lunacy to discard him when he is still so clearly superior to any alternate opening options

The real problem aside from the general lack of batting talent is that the couple of players who imo are better than someone like Carder all bat lower down. Young Thomas Kelly (who made 76 for the 2nds today) is a good example, I definitely believe that he has the ability to forge himself a FC career, but putting him at 3 at this stage of his development would be almost career suicide

Speaking of strange examples, not sure a guy who barely played any FC cricket nor seemed particularly interested in doing so is exactly the best example of your point

Especially considering some of the spinners who HAVE taken bulk wickets in West Indies FC cricket

Richardson must be spitting chips having missed out on bowling on a Perth Pitch indistinguishable from the outfield to be brought in on a typical Melbourne flattie.

Have a look at the CA twitter feed for that decision he copped with Pucovski. Barely home team park standard umpiring.

Future Australian opening batsman Tim Ward with another score in the second dig.

Thank **** NSW stuck with Hughes, Sangha, Gilkes, Edwards et al, eh?
