Australian Domestic Season 2018/19

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
In 1938 Arthur Fagg scored 244 and 202* against Essex on 13-15 July, scored 91 and 0 against Surrey starting on the 16th, then the day after that match had ended went over to Maidstone and scored 118 and 2 against Glamorgan. 657 runs in nine days.
Might I add this was done without modern controlled diets, isotonic drinks, massage therapists, drinks breaks every five overs, other support staff, compression clothing, ice baths and so on.

Fagg was a serious cricketer too. He was paired with Hutton to be England's long term opener. He didn't make it because the selectors were concerned over his health and he wasn't hard enough. He's a super hero compared to Pukeovski. I kind of believe the stated reason is the truth as who wants to make up a story as cover for something else but shows themselves up as soft? So he must be soft and just too dumb to realise how bad it is to admit it. Go take a hammer and bash your thumb if your looking for an excuse to back out.

EDIT. I mean hell seriously. take a quick read of Perkins' book about Larwood and the bit about what he had to do in the mines. He basically played non stop cricket for 4 months without modern travel or accommodation and never once complained about the workload. That's because he could compare a cricketer's lifestyle in the sun with the alternative down the pit.

Honestly this is just as unAustralian as sandpaper. Pukovski should be banned for life for this disgrace.

Call him soft all you want but it’s one of those things that can’t be helped. If he’s crook or exhausted, then what’s to be gained from him playing when he’s effectively not fully fit?

Question whatever it is that causes the situation but I don’t see how you can get up the bloke for not playing if he’s not right. There could be any number of things at play here, maybe something amiss which hasn’t yet been diagnosed. Or maybe. It. But you can’t just tell the bloke to harden up and pretend there’s nothing wrong if something is

Look if he had chronic fatigue or a virus or an actual medical condition that's be acceptable. But not having recovered from scoring runs? That's bizarre from a supposedly professional level athlete.

Yeah but if he's crook it's one thing. You'd just say he's unfit for the next game or has an injury. You don't issue a press release saying he's too tired. If there's a medical basis for it then fair enough, but if Cricket Victoria just says "he's exhausted" then what do they expect the reaction to be?

On Cricinfo a headline saying Pat Howard wont extend contract beyond 2019. Don't want to wish time away so could you bring that forward and **** off now Pat?

Couple of tons and fifties afterward to round out the season too. Iron man.

Might need to be a little careful about jumping to the conclusion that Pukovski is a wuss after what happened with Taylor in England, though. At 20, should be able to bat a day, even a hard one. Could be something wrong.

In fairness, Pucovski's 243 was only his 7th shield innings so it's not like he had a lot of time to get used to recovering from such big innings?

Then they should have said that he has a medical condition. Instead they said he's fatigued. At best it looks poor.

What info gets released is up to him, not Cricket Victoria. Maybe he does need to HTFU. We don't know. That's the point.

It was pretty obvious that the full story wasn't told so I don't really get why there was immediate outrage. If he's not fully recovered why would you send a player with his history brain injures out there

This article makes more sense

But Cricket Victoria officials revealed he began struggling almost as soon as his innings ended, and he didn’t field on the fourth day as the Vics romped to a big win.

Pucovski has been extremely tired ever since and while tests have ruled out glandular fever his history of concussion issues has prompted medical staff to be extremely cautious with the young star.

“He just doesn’t feel well and hasn’t recovered from the knock in WA as we would have liked,” CV general manager Shaun Graf told the Herald Sun.
