Australian Domestic Season 2016/17

Yep GC is one of the best options as long as the talent comes from Australia wide (not just predominantly QLD Bulls players). GC in theory suits the Bash. Are drop in pitches allowed at Metricon?

There aren't that many good domestic players without a franchise though, so while I wouldn't mind expansion, it shouldn't be at the expense of quality. I guess an easy way to combat a 10 team comp would be by having 3 overseas players available per team. That way 80 Aussie players minimum compared to 72 currently.
I would be a big supporter of this, if we could somehow attract better quality overseas players, or at least bigger names. Even with 2 overseas players per side we seem to be scraping the barrel a bit.

Read elsewhere that Harper, the Victorian wicketkeeper, is still in hospital and is not expected to play again this season.
This has slipped under the radar a bit, what's the story? Surely nothing too serious or we'd be hearing more about it?

Dont get me wrong as I'm not advocating expansion nor do I think that CA are contemplating it.

Just think that the GC would really take to it as BBL is very popular in these parts

Also IIRC, Metricon has hosted cricket in the past and used to be the home of the Gold Coast grade team before they moved out to Robina years ago

Little doubt that they could use drop ins if required and it is ICC compliant https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrara_Stadium

Dan Marsh axed by Tassie. Hard to argue really. Will be interesting to see what direction they go in with their playing roster.

Apparently OK but will be in hospital till the end of the week
I'm hearing otherwise - will end up OK but he's not all that good at the moment. Having some bad luck with their young guns, the Victorians, between Harper and Pucovski.

Gotch being groomed to take his spot as keeper, even though Aaron Ayre scored 170 in a Futures game last week.

Wow

End of the second day of Futures League

It will be a day Winter from SA will remember, taking 5/6 against the Vics, all out for 66, losing 5 for 1,

The Croweaters led by 352 on the first innings and decided to have another hit and now are 600 to the good with 5 wickets in hand, Weatherald making 66 and Dalton 44no.

The Sandgropers lead the Bluebaggers by 306, after centuries to Carder, and Hobson (230 runs for the 2nd wicket) and Hinchliffe.

TS Rogers for the Bureaucrats is having a fine game, after 3 of the Apple eaters wickets in the first innings, he made 89 in a partnership of 118 with McAndrew to rescue his side from 8/106 to a total of 224, and picked up another Tassie wicket at the start of the 2nd dig.
Kingston got 5/53 for the Apple eaters.

I saw last week that Nic Maddinson was excited about playing futures and shield cricket in (not Sydney, perhaps the gong).

Is Maddinson a sure thing to cone back into a team who picks 5 bowlers min and has Henriques and Nevill in top form. He will probably play, but there has to be discussion.

I wouldn't play him unless he was coming in for a bowler.

But scoring runs hasn't been our problem. Taking wickets has. Abbott, Copes, Sommerville and Dougeh! are locks, so it's Mad Dog or Nair/Stobo. We need the bowling more than Nic's cold with occasional glimpses of hot.

He should just take an extended break, maybe get a gig in England over winter and come back next season ready.

I can't wait to see how Jimmy "Cut every ball over backward point for four" Peirson fills Hartley's sizable shoes.
