Everyone knew the truth, we just didn't want to believe that Clarke was a back stabber. He has a nice list of stabbings now too.

well it's not really the truth. it's a claim which....well clarke wasn't part of the selection team that cut Katich's contract. he might have been contacted about it but the 4 men - cox, boon, hildtich and chappell - cut katich's contract. clarke got selection powers afterwards. It might harm his attempt to get back into the team but being 36 is a greater barrier.

don't mind katich coming out and saying 'cause it's a test for clarke. hope he's aggressive in his response.

Yeah reckon Katich is being a bit of an idiot tbh. In any case, it seems he doesn't really have much of an idea whether Clarke was actually involved or not (because he has contradicted himself). But more importantly, if he ever wanted to get back into the team, why on Earth would you publicly announce something like that? His test career was probably already over, but he has well and truly dug his own grave here given Clarke is officially a selector now.

Unless of course Katich is a mastermind...maybe he has said these things with the hope Clarke will have to bring him back into the team now in order to save face and dispel the idea that he kicked someone out of the team for such a petty reason. Wouldn't hold your breath Kato...

Ohhhhhh, why couldn't WA just pry out that rabbit George, that would have been an awesome start to the season, Coulter-Nile looks a star, pity about the One Day form but oh well.

Kudos to SA for sticking it out though

You seriously think that Clarke wouldn't have a say in things like that? He was after all Vice Captain and part of the succession plan

Good to see Beer bowling so well to start the season, in both formats. Whether we like it or not he's going to be in the Australian setup for the next little period at the very least so seeing him rack up some numbers and performance can only be a good thing. He really has a lovely arm ball, especially when bowling around the wicket to the right handers - I'm sure it'll be identified and planned against but it's a good to see he has such skills and is applying them somewhat consistently.

Not really earth-shattering news is it? And most of it was just taken straight from the spray when his contract wasn't renewed. As usual can't see a quote in there to justify the tone of the headline. (much like MJ's "unlucky in SL" headline)

Absolute get out of jail for SA this game. Not many players on the SA side come out with any credit. SA suffering from next **** syndrome, m'thinks. Bit rudder-less.

'Tis pretty obvious (the Katich thing), but what irks/confuses me is why he's saying that now and not at the time. It's not great timing given that we have a series decider in about three hours from now.

I suppose that makes sense.

These days however the first tour matches seem to be non first class matches where they use their entire squad to get used to the conditions, nevertheless. Be interesting to see how Lyon goes given the workload he's had, which could be another factor.

And yes, how did George (the forgotten man of Australian fast bowling) last 60 balls... devastated

Kat's just whinging like a bitch now. Real shame, I expected better of him. Even if it was true, and as noted 4 actual selectors were involved and Kat wouldn't really have any ****ing idea what Clarke may or may not have discussed with them, you don't do yourself any favours going the bitch and moan route. He's taken wickets and made runs and so put a bit of pressure on the new selectors to have a look at him if an opportunity arose, but now he's as good as retired himself. No selector is going to think, "yeah lets pick the guy who's going to undermine the captain" no matter how many runs he's making or wickets he's taking.
