6 for Siddle. Seriously impressive bowler he has turned into...I didn't think he was up to it, but long may it continue!

Just realised that the 6/43 Siddle got in that match was his best ever FC figures.

What do people think of these seemingly rapid improvements in bowlers of late? Is it likely that bowlers like Hilf and Siddle have changed for the good permanently, or is it more likely just to be a phase of particularly good form? There is no doubt they are actually bowling better than before (and it's not just a string of good results), but the question is if they can maintain it or not.

The reason I'm asking it is that I find it kind of hard to believe such a drastic transformation can take place in such short time period. Siddle was bowling (relatively) poorly as recently as in SA (in good bowling conditions he was hardly getting any movement), and then suddenly in the next series against NZ, and from then onwards, he has looked excellent (even in poor bowling conditions like at Adelaide). I might not have seen enough or something, but from what I saw of Hilf in the shield he wasn't bowling half as well as he did in the series against India...that was easily the best he has ever bowled. And the time span we are talking about there is a matter of weeks.

Hilf not bowling very well in the shield and hardly showing he had countered his weaknesses was the whole point of that rant..................................

Siddle's performance today probably means little, because he often killed it in the shield after a disappointing summer and SA are still SA. But the summer means a lot. I mean, quite simply he did what everyone was telling him to do for a long time, and was even more successful than we thought he would be.

Now of course the fact that India was such a rabble means for me I'm not going go too over-board with the performance this summer. You know, If Siddle/Ponting/Hilf/Cowan **** it up next summer I'm not gonna say "well yeah but the summer before....We can't drop him!!!". I mean, let's no repeat #SA09Tour please.... But you know of the guys who had killer summers who we didn't expect to have killer summers, Siddle is the one I have the most confidence in to having a killer summer again.

After 2-3 years of suffering through that '6 wicket haul then 4 matches of nothing ****' I'm still a little bit worried which Siddle will turn up each day, but it seems he's getting his consistency under control

When Ed Cowan is scoring at greater than a run-a-ball, then something is wrong with the bowling. When Wells has his first innings of substance ever, then the bowling must be diabolical.

FMD I just saw the Bulls scored 282 and thought 'great'.... now seeing Tas's score I'm more 'wtf'.

And yet while everyone else has been getting carted, McDermott is still only going for 3.25 an over.

If Wells was plumb there not given would the third umpire have been able to over-turn it? Or is it just yet another batting-biased initiative that has been introduced?

yeah they do it. but you'd have to think that batsmen will be given out and then overturned rather than not being given and then being given far more often

so anyway it'll be interesting to see whether WA replace him with one of the young aus U19 keepers (whiteman and i forgot the other one's name) or bring a keeper in. or that guy who was keeper at the start of the season
