Australian Domestic Off Season 2018

I'm guessing Doggett and Labuschagne conducted amazingly sycophantic campaigns behind the scenes in the A series to get tickets to this disaster.

It's a dumb squad, but at least 2 players are purely tourists for a 2 test series.

Maxwell has got to be throwing ****, though.

Wonder if this is the squad of good blokes Langer asked for

From Trevor 'I went and played in apartheid South Africa' Hohns:

"Joe, Peter and Glenn were players we discussed when selecting the batting group, but we had to take into account the conditions and competition we are set to face in the upcoming series," Hohns said. "All three remain on our radar for Test cricket, but we want them to perform for their States and continue to push their case ahead of what is going to be a big Australian summer.
What more does Maxwell have to do domestically? Average 150?

Khawaja/????
SMarsh
?????
MMarsh
Paine
Starc
?????
Lyon
Holland

So 2 from Head/Finch/Marnus
One from Tremain/Siddle/Doggett

The others + Agar in reserve. Although I would 100% not put it past them to pick Agar ahead of Holland

A disaster in all forms. Not only do they leave the best available batsman at home, the bowling selections are complete whack. WTF has Doggett done? And how on earth is Siddle still viable given how poor he was at Shield level last season?

Wonder how much of the series Marnus will spend under the lid at short leg; whether he’s in the XI or not

Looking at the fast bowling options I'm picking all 3 spinners, at least Agar can bat. Starc and MMarsh to do the seam work (what little there is).

I'd back Agar to be more effective with the ball than Siddle or Neser, regardless if there's already 2 other spinners in the side.

Seeing people saying 'b-b-but Siddle averagesh shixteen in county'. Do they not watch cricket? Can they not see that wickets taken in early season county where 125 km/h trundlers rule has little bearing on a series played on the toughest pitches in the world, where he averages 109?

Forgotten man in all this: Chadd Sayers.

I don't think he'd have been great but look at it from his point of view.
- dominated Shield for 3-4 (?) seasons
- finally gets selected for a Test
- most of first choice quicks are injured
- he's the incumbent
- get's left out of the squad for Neser, Doggett and Siddle

It's 5:00 so I'm going home but **** I want to bitch some more about this debacle

Bizarreness discussed already. Ed Cowan all over the Burns/Tremain non-selections on twitter.

Renshaw
Khawaja
S.Marsh
Finch
Head/Labuschagne
M.Marsh
Paine
Agar/Siddle
Starc
Lyon
Holland

Neser/Doggett definitely dignified drinks carriers. Siddle obvz off it for a while but still back his experience of conditions over these 2.

Nah, Neser isn't that unreasonable. He has really kicked on as a bowler in the last 12-18 months
Maybe a bit harsh on Neser. Always thought of him for limited overs cricket.

Suppose swing with the new ball will be important for the first few overs in UAE too.
