I think his bowling is better suited to red ball cricket and his batting to white ball cricket.

Wildermuth inexplicably tends to do well, especially with the bat. He has much better domestic figures and performances than you think he should by witching him.
His batting would be such a regular asset if he could determine where his off stump is in his first 10 balls of an innings. It's like Russian roulette with two bullets in the chamber, your chances of bowling him are that fancy.

He's still too floaty with his bowling. I saw him live last year and he + Doggett are probably the quickest blokes QLD has minus Billy "James Pattinson's body is actually strong imo" Stanlake. Should look to maybe taking a leaf out of Feldman or Neser's book, I'm not sure slamming them into the deck will work for Wildermuth.

My take on aussie fast bowling:

NSW: First things first, the three Test quicks are obviously the first picked when fit and available, and then there is Copeland as the hardworking and reliable veteran. But beyond that there is a lot up in the air, knowing NSW they will probably just chop and change indeterminately between about 5 or 6 bowlers. One man who really needs to raise his game is Sean Abbott, he has bowled absolute pump over the last couple of seasons at FC level, been around for long enough that he should be playing a more senior role. Of the various young bowlers Henry Thornton is the one I am most excited about, can bowl genuine wheels when fit, been clocked at 150 before. Edwards, Dwarshuis, and even Hadley from the u19s can be decently sharp on their day, Stobo is more a steady bounce and seam movement bowler, where as Conway is somewhere inbetween I guess

QLD: Pace stocks have looked the best they have looked in a while over in Queensland, Michael Neser developing into a genuine red ball attack leader over the last 12-18 months probably the biggest contributing factor to this. Feldman on the other hand I am somewhat less enthused about, been a solid performer for a while, but considering his age and his increasingly gentle pace one can't help but think he is merely holding back younger and far more promising bowlers. Doggett showed glimpses of real quality on occasion but will be looking to improve his consistency, Steketee will probably remain there or there abouts, Wildermuth will offer a good all round option and Prestwidge is waiting in the wings for a chance. Biggest question however, will we see Billy Stanlake with a red ball during the summer? Certainly hope so

SA: Not really a greet deal to talk about pacewise, the Redbacks do have a fairly good attack overall though. The emergence of Nick Winter last season was heartening, having a left armer in the team added variety to an attack sometimes perceived as having a certain sameness to it, will be interesting if he can back up last year with similarly impressive performances. Sayers will carry on leading the bowling effort with his meduim-fast swingers, with Worrall, Winter, Mennie and Richardson will be probably fighting amongst themselves for two or three spots. Also worth keeping an eye on how David Grant fares, at his best he can jam a hard length and zip it around, he has been trying to add some more pace but as a result has days where his rhythm deserts him completely. And also Spencer Johnson, who while not as quick as his name suggests, is a promising young left arm pacer to look out for

TAS: I think it will be interesting to see how Jackson Bird fares, he has made no secret of wanting to be a part of the 2019 Ashes squad. Had an underwhelming showing on a flat MCG deck before picking up an injury before South Africa, but he would be keen put his name back forward with wickets. Tom Rogers was arguably the most impressive rookie of the season, and with Andrew Fekete opting to return to Victoria for personal reasons, he may well be even more important for the next season. I suspect Tasmania will look to continue to promote local talent, so the swing of Gabe Bell and the skiddy pace of Riley Meredith will likely play a more central role

VIC: Interestingly enough Victoria only used three specialist pacemen all of last season, that is far from a common occurrence. Chris Tremain was the most impressive with 51 wickets, he is certainly in the selectors thoughts when it comes to test cricket at the moment. There were questions asked about Peter Siddle's future after last season, he looked past his best at times but a strong county season for Essex in the winter should put those doubts to rest for a while. Patto is hoping to return after major back surgery, although knowing his history I am not too optimistic there. A real shame IMO he is the best fast bowler in the country right now when fully fit. On this subject a fair few people have compared Zak Evans to a young Pattinson, and I can see why. Lively customer, with the potential to get even quicker.

WA: There is no shortage of good quick bowlers out west, but actually keeping them on the park is a different matter entirely. Behrendorff probably the best of them, I do think he is test standard but his back just keeps letting him down. Joel Paris on the other hand seems to be getting back on track after a horror injury run of his own, and Jhye Richardson, while still fairly raw, has shown a few eyecatching performances as of late. Matt Kelly was also more than decent in his rookie season, practically became attack leader by default at times such was WA's injury woes. Where as Simon Mackin will be looking to get back to his consistent ways after going off the boil a bit towards the end of last season

Not exactly the most comprehensive rundown ever but I hope it is useful

SA and NSW's pace stocks this year look particularly depressing. My eye will be drawn to Matt Kelly particularly this season, I see good things for him.

The batting stocks are looking somehow even more depressing this year. If Burns, Khawaja and Renshaw are going to be on international duty I can't wait to see what sort of top order QLD produces now that Forrest has abandoned the idea of being our back up.

The season of Sam Truloff, Bryce Street and Lachlan Pfeffer is upon us.

Edit: Oh and Max "Aaron Finch's son" Bryant better get a regular gig just for the meme value.

I don't think Burns is as close as he should be given the circumstances. I get the feeling he'll be dropped next test for someone else.

I get the feeling it'd be after the tour so Aaron Finch can have his glorious feast in test cricket we've all waited for.

At this point it just seems like everyone is going to screw up on the UAE tour, so it feels meaningless.

The Redbacks attack is pretty good, just kinda slow. I look back at their last Shield title in 1995/96, Jason Gillespie, Shane George and Mark Harrity was probably one of the fastest bowling lineups in the whole world. I know Adelaide Oval was a lot flatter then so extra pace was wanted and medium fast swing and seam bowlers were largely overlooked. But South Australia not having produced a real tearaway since Tait is somewhat disappointing tbh

Sam Truloff put his name up 2 open for QLD IF THE BIG 3 Q's don't open in the JLT,played in Darwin.

3 T20's on UAE,so Finchy and Darcy will miss a few.

By my calcluations this will include the whole JLT cup and the first two Sheffield Shield rounds. Not convinced Short would even make the WA Shield starting XI anyway tbh, not sure opening the batting in red ball stuff is really right for him.

Suits the Dukes ball they've been using though

Was Shane George that fast? From memory he was fast-medium at best.

Could consistently get over 140Km/h and won some pre-season fast bowling comp to be rated the quickest in the country at that time with a speed near 150. Quick enough.
