Yeah sure they might want to make the decks spin but there's a pretty important factor which won't be in favour of that; the weather. It's not a hot time of year, the pitches won't be dust-bowls. As you said, if they don't want a lively deck, they'll just shave them to negate the Aussie quicks and make them slow and low because that's really all they'll have available to them. One thing the pitches just won't do is spin. Not in the first couple of Tests, anyway.

The problem then will be Lee and Clark; they've proven themselves quite capable of taking wickets on flat pitches whereas none of the Indian pacers have so they'd better win the toss or the Indian batters will be facing some big, big totals. Every tactic has a downside if certain things don't go your way and making the decks flatter than flat also gives the Aussies a fairly hefty head-start if they bat first and a much easier time of it if they bat second.
8-)

In anticipation of what will hopefully be a great series:
To an extent.
Winner - India
Yep.
Series scoreline - umm, 3-1 if weather doesn't intervene. Not valid if it does.
Two full-game draws, most unexpected.
Most runs - Hayden for Aus, Tendulkar for Ind
Not even close on the first, should have said Hussey really, not that far away on the second.
Most wickets - Lee for Aus, Harbhajan Singh for Ind
Not even close on the first (was almost Krejza who played 1 game ), good on the latter, even if it did end-up a tie.
Man of the series - Sehwag
Nope.
First Australian player to get dropped from the side - no-one, I hope
Who would have thought it'd be Stuart Clark.
First Indian player to get dropped from the side - Gambhir
Not even close.
First player to get booked by the match referee - Harbhajan Singh
Nope.

Richard, Clark wasn't the first dropped, Siddle was. Whilst he was only played in the first place to replace Clark, its still an omission, i.e. being dropped from the team. If you're not injured, and aren't selected, you were dropped.

Just like Symonds was dropped from the Australian line-up, even though it wasn't form related.

He was dropped for a disciplinary breach. It's not the same as being dropped for failure to do the job on-field, but it's still going from first-choice to not first-choice.

For mine, you have to be in the side as a first-choice to be dropped. When I talk about someone being dropped, I mean they went from being a first-choice to not being.

An injury replacement cannot be dropped, IMO. Hence, when I talk about someone being dropped, that's what I mean. Someone else can mean something else if they want to, but what other people mean by "dropped" doesn't mean what I mean has to be the same.

And I am flabbergasted that Clark was dropped at all. Siddle, however, only played because Clark had been injured, so could not be dropped.
