Australia could be ranked below Ireland

Why are you guys arguing? I'll make it easy.

Both ODIs and T20s suck. They're both completely unmemorable 99% of the time. And no should care how anyone does in either format. This is like arguing if Justin Langer is a better bowler than Matthew Hayden. Even if you figure it out, you really haven't achieved anything. It's a pointless question.

:p

Does this really matter in the grand scheme of things?

England are 2nd and current world champions, who cares it is only hit and giggle cricket anyway.

Everyone knows this - shows what CW thinks of T20 that such a prime opportunity to troll Australia is all but ignored

Pakistan v Australia, 2nd T20I, Dubai : Australia slide below Ireland in T20 rankings | Cricket News | Pakistan v Australia | ESPN Cricinfo

Australia have slided below Ireland. Could salvage the situation if the win the last T20I against Pak though.

Still , not at Australia in particular, but the moronic ranking methodology.
From that article:

In the current rankings period, which began on August 1, 2010, Australia have won only four of their 13 games, which have all come against South Africa, Pakistan, England, India, Sri Lanka and West Indies.

By comparison, Ireland have won eight of 11, but all of their victories have come against Associate nations: Kenya, Scotland, Canada, Netherlands and Afghanistan. The only matches they have played against full ICC members came during a three-match series against Bangladesh in July - and Ireland lost all three games.
Yes, Australia aren't very good at T20, but those rankings are a complete joke (just like T20 itself, imo). Look at the teams Australia are playing compared to Ireland. Unless you have a system (like the Test rankings) of every team playing every other team over the ranking period, then the rankings are completely meaningless.

Nah. There just isn't enough data. Simple as that.

So honestly, nobody from the media ever asked this?
The selection of the T20 side isn't something that's covered much in the press here in general.

I think Watson would be captain right now he was actually fit when Clarke retired and Bailey was given the job. He wasn't actually overlooked at such; he just wasn't available and I think the selectors wanted to start the planning for the T20 World Championship then and there, getting some sort of structure in place. After they made Bailey captain initially, I don't think they were too keen to take the job off him straight away when Watson recovered, especially given they actually brought him in as a specialist captain.

I think it's all pretty silly personally so I'm not defending it, but that's the rationale behind what happened.
