Auction draft II - ODI

lol, still eagerly awaiting a few more details on weldone's auction draft.
For a start, let me give this much away:

That draft won't have a huge number of less than $10 bids for quality players, won't indirectly force every drafter to bid for every player, and won't last for a lifetime. :P

But, I don't think I'll be able to start that very soon, not before I get a reliable 24*7 high speed net connection in my new house.

Sounds like an idea I had that was pretty simple. Everyone gets $10m budget and can bid for anyone who's ever played a test match, as much as they want and as many players in a round as they like (up to 11). Whoever gets the highest bids for each player gets them, if a player didn't receive any bids at all then they stay available to be drafted in the next round. Keep moving on until all the teams have 11 players.

I would also be against the idea of training. Agree with weldone that the idea of an auction draft is surely a test of how well you manage a budget and balance a side as we go along. just being able to swap players at the end kind of invalidates that I think.

I don't see the point of having 13 rounds in that case. 11 rounds would have been a true test of balancing skills.

Trading seems a good idea to me.

This is just a game, anything to prolong the experience is a good thing. Cannot take these things too seriously.

Even if you guys are going to incorporate trading, please keep a specific timeline (like 1 week) for that. Any deal done after 1 week's time will not be valid. This one can't go on for a lifetime, for sure.

BTW, I treated this thread as serious fun :P

Do you or do you not have an Excel file with all sorts of unnecessary details?
No, I don't...The excel file I had contained less content than Joe's one (for example, I never bothered writing down players' stats, as I have a rough idea about those which is more than enough), and I'm not using the excel file any more for the last 5 rounds or so...Moreover, I never used the excel file for making strategies, all the strategies were made in between my ears- and the excel file was only for a few calculations.

Quick heads up, I'm actually now out this afternoon so the final results will be later this evening...

And the final round is run!

The following have been drafted:

C Ambrose - weldone
G Blewett - Pskov
S Chanderpaul - honestbharani
P Collingwood - Noble One
H Cronje - Himannv
C Harris - G.I.Joe
C Hooper - Blakus
C McDermott - Somerset
A Qadir - Cevno
Y Singh - Pothas

I added S Chanderpaul, P Collingwood and C McDermott.

From lowest to highest, bids were as follows: $1, $2, $52,948, $95,829, $95,855, $400,000, $690,232, $998,460, $1,381,835, $1,399,969.

So that's this one run, and I'm going to take a break before launching another, most likely T20, but may be some other twist possibly...

I know weldone is talking about running a form of draft, so look forward to seeing his!

Nice, he was my nomination. Still not decided what to do with the team, but may just relegate Boycott to the bench:

Team so far:

1. Romesh Kaluwitharana +
2. Sachin Tendulkar
3. Hansie Cronje (c)
4. Darren Lehmann
5. Allan Border
6. Jonty Rhodes
7. Angelo Mathews
8. Shakib al Hasan
9. Andy Roberts
10. Joel Garner
11. Muthiah Muralitharan

12. Robin Singh
13. Geoff Boycott

This would most likely be the lineup. Will put up he stats tomorrow.

My team -

Sunil Gavaskar
Chris Gayle
Michael Clarke
Kevin Pietersen
Greg Chappell
Mohinder Amarnath
Brad Haddin
Andrew Flintoff
Abdul Qadir
Terry Alderman
Malcolm Marshall

Reserves

1)Trevor Chappell
2)Daniel Vettori

Tough one to choose between Qadir and Vettori ,but will take The Leggie as he offers more variety to the attack.
