Auckland CC today announced Former SA and ACT manager Brendon Goff as the successor to Liam Camps as manager.

Goff who holds the WCC record for most titles won has come out of retirement to take the reigns of the NZ club..

Media were shocked as Goff was announced as Manager in a release earlier today...

Goff retired from Fulltime management last season before stepping into the background as 2nd XI manager for ACT, however after a few games into the new season Goff was approached by Auckland management and the lure of 1st Team management was to good for him to refuse...

Goff Takes over a team who have promised so much in the season so far but are plodding along in a mid table position in Division 1...

When asked of the goals for the team, Goff told reporters that his aim was to see Auckland at the top of the WCC within 3 seasons, and with the nucleas of a top side already in place Goff could well be on his way to yet more WCC gold.

Goff also stated that he is on the trail of a High profile 2nd XI manager to help mould the youth that Auckland cricket brings through...

In another big announcement today Auckland CC have announced former Western Province and Auckland Manager Ian Markus will be returning to the club as the 2nd XI manager and to assist Brendon Goff with the running of the club.

Goff personally targeted Markus for a return when he accepted the job and after a slight discussion Markus was happy to accept..

Both appointments will surely have the WCC world shaking as both are undoubtedly in the top 5 managers of all time in WCC...

Old Head Returns to Develop Juniors

A small media throng gathered outside the Auckland CC headquarters where former WP and previously Auckland first XI manager Ian Markus was unveiled as the second XI coach. The news came just days after former first division winning manager Brendon Goff was appointed to the head role at the club.

Markus revealed that he was very keen to develop the talents of some of the younger players and take a some-what different role to what he was previously used to, "I see my role at the club as being one whereby I help the players we have at Auckland that are full of talent, young players like Wayne Fitzstanford and Anish Zakir to develop their games so that they may one day become leaders in the first division".

When asked as about the motivation behind his return Markus highlighted a deep respect for first XI manager Brendon Goff and also a deep friendship built with many of the current Auckland players at the club, "the decision was obviously a tough one, however I have missed the friendship with players and as a second XI manager I will be able to balance uni life whilst still being able to maintain good relations with Brendon, Thilan and Oliver".

The bad blood between Markus and the club seems to have cleared for now after Markus walked out on an Auckland side over 4 seasons ago, leaving many of the Auckland public blaming him for their years of cellar dwelling. It will be interesting to see whether or not Markus can win back their faith with experts believing that if results in the second XI go sour Markus could be the first to go.

Western Province very much look forward to battling with Auckland as the season progresses, and after declining at the time of his resignation, we hope that Ian Markus will take up the opportunity of a lap in a BMW convertible before the game to let the fans show their appreciation of the efforts he put in throughout his time at WP.

And then we'll hopefully belt 'em... :D
