Aubrey Faulkner vs Ravindra Jadeja

Aubrey Faulkner only all performance seems to be in 1910 series vs england where he averaged 61 with the bat and 22 with the bowl. In other series' he was either a batsman or a bowler.

I would not have guessed in a million times that jadeja would lose this.
He was a natural bowler. One of the best wrist-spinners pre-1914. Maybe just behind Vogler and Hordern.
Made himself into a decent batsman through assiduous practice. Had an unorthodox technique and awkward chest-on style, but his defence was sound. Good in the slips or outfield.
There were several accomplished all-rounders at the time. After the 1910-11 tour of Australia Faulkner's reputation was as high as any.
Planned to join a county but was offered more money to play club cricket in Nottingham.

Was Noble considered better than Faulkner back then?
Noble was considered a better batsman, particularly on rain-affected English pitches.
As bowlers they were both innovators, with Noble an early exponent of swerve. Faulkner's standing as a bowler may have been a bit higher, except in Australia where he was less effective. Of the early googly bowlers Faulkner was the most difficult to pick.
In terms of all-round cricket there wasn't much to choose between them. Faulkner's reputation seems to have held up for longer.

Average in Faulkners matches is 26.28. Faulkner’s batting average is 40.79 and his bowling is 26.57.
Average in Jadeja’s matches is 31.90, Jadeja’s batting average is 36.14 and his bowling is 24.13.
Clearly Faulkner was a better batsman than Jadeja.
That’s not even excluding his final test, played 3 years after his last FC match, after having contracted malaria several times during the war and being overweight and completely out of shape.
Excluding that test it would look like this
Average in his matches: 25.71
Faulkners batting: 41.87 and bowling: 25.52
Faulkner was definitely a better batsman, though Jadeja is the superior bowler.

faulkner is a better batsman and a worse bowler, he’s not above jadeja and since the time he played cricket in is effectively irrelevant we pick jadeja
