He forgot 2007, both ODI and t20 world cups. They were both quite spectacular as far SA world cup exits go (aka chokes)

Yeah it wasn't until I saw the scores from the final that I realized how well they were placed in this game. Still, when I watched it back, India's late overs bowling was crazy good, especially Bumrah.
It was 30 from 30 with 6 wickets left. Bumrah only had 2 of those overs to bowl, he could've been seen off and the bulk of the runs from elsewhere. Arshdeep getting Klaasen was key though, it then exposed the muddled thinking to Bumrah's bowling.

It reminded me quite a lot of this game (although not exactly a lot was hanging on this one)......most random T20 series don't live long in the memory but this one has for being a quality choke. Australia needed 39 from 40 with 9 wickets remaining. I seem to remember it was Rashid who started the confusion but still not sure how they ended 3 short.....Carey and Agar would seem to be the answers.

Fair point, although there's an argument to say Pant got him with his time wasting histrionics.
He's not a child to get worked over so easily by a five-minute break, especially after getting the target down to a run-a-ball. If he did then he deserved to get out.

I don't think it was a choke.

Klassen getting out felt like more like brain fade/bit of complacency than a choke. Jansen was a proper deer in the headlights Vs Bumrah. Miller agreeing to the single that kept Maharaj on strike in the 19th was muddled thinking.

Those were probably the only mistakes/moments that SA could have handled better in those last 5 overs. The rest was India being immense. That catch was incredible, Miller got enough on it for six 99 times out of 100.

It also seems (though not certain) that SA decided to score in ones and twos after 30 from 30. That would be in choke territory.

No Miller didn't connect cleanly. It came off the bottom of his bat.

Not really, they tried to hit boundaries here and there but found the fielders on the fence. Plus India often forced them to hit against the wind so good shots were only going for 1 or 2. Wind was 35 kmphr.

30 from 30 with 6 wickets remaining on a 160 pitch is a choke. Yes, India bowled well. But it’s still a choke.

Got enough on it to be a six if not for that freak Surya catch.

Tell me you didn't watch the game without telling me you didn't watch the game

This has been a low scoring WC. 6 an over here felt like 7-8 per over. India had a positively massive score and SA batted superbly to get to that stage, but it was never going to be as easy as the calculation suggested, especially with their long tail and Bumrah bowling 12 of those deliveries.

Tell me you've run out of arguments without telling me you've run out of arguments. Pretty certain I watched more of this World Cup than most (and probably you).

This wasn't the NY drop in pitches, this was Barbados. Where Scotland scored 90 off 10 against England, where Australia scored 200, where Eng scored 117 off less than 10 overs against US, where Windies scored 130 in 11 against US, where India scored 181 against the Afghans.....

India's score of 176 was par and no more on that pitch. SA were going at more than 9 an over when they required a run a ball from the last 5......how is that not a choke?

It most definitely was a choke. Some of the other knock out games that have been called chokes have not been. But this was one.

India did everything they could to put pressure on SA and it worked. But SA would expect to win from that position more often than not against any opposition.

I have seen some shitty threads in my time, but I think this has won. I guess all the usuals dont need their PornHub accounts anymore to get their rocks off. Just flex in front of the keyboard and post....

Saying "it's not a choke" is pure uncut 100% revisionism. No one at the time could fathom wtf SA were doing out there after Klaasen got out. It was genuinely like they forgot they still had to score some runs, and then the strike management was a complete mess.
Bruh you get all your info from twitter hot takes, not sure how serious you're being here

Keeping Maharaj on strike for the 19th was an error they made on one ball. Apart from that, Bumrah and Arshdeep bowled really well. Miller and Maharaj were making every attempt to score just couldn't connect or find the gap. Jansen got cleaned up first ball. Tailenders struggling to score Vs quality death bowling isn't a choke, once Klassen got out the game was very much 50/50. Everyone I was talking to during the game believed as much.

Simply reading '30 off 30' is so shallow
