Form Watch for 3rd Ashes Test
The following is the current form (last 5-tests) for the 3rd Ashes test:
Australia
1. Hayden:
198 runs @ 22.00
2. Langer: 315 runs @ 45.00
3. Ponting: 692 runs @ 98.85
4. Hussey: 642 runs @ 91.71
5. Martyn: 250 runs @ 31.25
6. Clarke: 257 runs @ 51.40
7. Gilchrist: 232 runs @ 38.66 --- 19 dismissals
8. Lee: 182 runs @ 60.66 ---
13 wkts @ 47.92
9. Warne: 110 runs @ 18.33 --- 24 wkts @ 33.50
10. Clark: 62 runs @ 15.50 --- 23 wkts @ 21.52
11. McGrath: 21 runs @ 10.50 --- 17 wkts @ 32.35
12. MacGill: 55 runs @ 18.33 --- 24 wkts @ 25.29
What this highlights IMO:
Ponting & Hussey are still Bradmanesque, Hayden may have one more chance before Jaques comes in, Martyn should only play if Watson is still injured, Clarke is now safe for the rest of the series, Gilly is on his way back, Lee should definitely bat above Warne unless he is to make way for MacGill of course (but I’d keep Lee).
England
1. Strauss: 357 runs @ 39.66
2. Cook: 384 runs @ 42.66
3. Bell: 383 runs @ 54.71
4. Collingwood: 464 runs @ 66.28
5. Pietersen: 553 runs @ 61.44
6. Flintoff:
103 runs @ 17.60 --- 19 wkts @ 31.05
7. Jones:
130 runs @ 14.44 --- 21 dismissals
8. Giles: 234 runs @ 29.25 ---
6 wkts @ 97.50
9. Harmison: 95 runs @ 15.83 --- 17 wkts @ 40.76
10. Hoggard: 29 runs @ 4.14 --- 15 wkts @ 40.26
11. Anderson: 40 runs @ 10.00 --- 14 wkts @ 44.21
12. Panesar: 39 runs @ 19.50 --- 22 wkts @ 27.09
Top 5 still seems pretty good but terrible batting order overall when you need Monty to come in to strengthen the batting (the last 6 are averaging only 91 runs between them)
Oh yeah, all bowlers are averaging over 40 which must be some sort of record, however none as bad as Giles’s measly 6 wkts @ 97. Good thing his batting earns him a # 6 spot in this team
