A few worrying signs for the Aussies statistically.
I think the "5-Test" stats show that the Aussie's may have a real problem with the openers and Martyn will stay under scrutiny. The biggest surprise to me was McGrath's poor record in his last 5 tests, especially since he hasn't played for awhile.
From the English perspective, Trescothick is in worse form than I thought and the 4th and 5th bowler (behind Flintoff, Harmison and Panesar) looks a real problem.
Oh yeah, shocked to see that Jones had 29 dismissals in his last 5 tests before he was dropped (shame his batting wasn't better).

Key in my opinion - the First Test. Since 1990 when the 'Gabba has hosted the First Test of a series Australia have won 11 and drew 4. But the interesting point is of the four teams that got away from the 'Gabba undefeated one went on to win the series(WI '92-'93)and two others held Australia to draws(NZ 2001-02 and India 2003-04).The one exception was Englamd in 1998-99 - but they would have probably lost but for a thunderstorm. Australia will EXPECT to be 1-0 up after Brisbane with their record there so if England don't lose it will be a big boost for them. PS - looking at the form guide just confirms something that has puzzled me for ages - why did Australia drop Hodge so soon after his 203 no v SA? The figures suggest he has a good case for being in the 1st Test team ahead of both Martryn and Clarke.

Yeah, but with Giles averaging 90, Hoggard 50 and Anderson 40 in their last 5-Tests, would you really not have harmison in the second test? At least he has potential if he could get his mind right.Matteh said:

bw, It's funny how everyone is calling for Martyns head (not wrong IMO, but only if Watson plays) but the 5-test stats show that Hayden is in much worse form and Jaques is a ready replacement.
