Ashes Commentary

It's not the point how she does, she could be a total screw up and it wouldn't validate anything you've said.
It would prove my point - or are you saying it only matters if a male commentator/pundit is crap?

I'm a sucker for punishment, so I'll give it one more try.

If she was crap, it wouldn't prove your argument that women are incapable of presenting the cricket, it would merely indicate that Stephanie Brantz was incapable of presenting the cricket. Surely that's simple enough?

See, Geoff Boycott is a good commentator and Waqar Younis is a bad commentator, and yet they are both men. Similarly, Ramiz Raja isn't too bad as commentators go, even though he is from Pakistan just like Waqar. So if Stephanie Brantz was a bad presenter, it wouldn't mean that, for instance, Karen Rolton or someone wouldn't be a perfectly capable cricket presenter, despite the fact that they are both women.

And if you think I'm ***ist you haven't read my signature - one of my favourite sports stars is a female tennis player (and I'm a member of an internet forum about her -hardly the actions of a ***ist person)
I'm looking forward to Poker Boy using the line "some of my best friends are girls" as part of his argument...

My friends aren't 80-year old men they are in their 20s and 30s. And the people who disagree with me are like Tony Blair's Government when you dare suggest that there are too many immigrants in Britain - all they say is you're racist - even when most of the immigrants causing concern are white. The only argument most of you use against me is ***ism - trying to bully me into agreeing with you - well it won't work! OK, I want page 3 bannned, hated the MCC for banning women and admire Hantuchova for the fact she is far more intelligent than your average Aussie  (yes she's gorgeous as well but I bet I ain't the only one here that likes a nice-looking girl) and have never looked at porn - if you think they are the actions of a ***ist person you're entitled to your opinion. If you Aussies want to watch Stephanie-whatever-her-name is good luck to you - but Sky don't employ a woman and I'm sure they would if the viewers in Britain wanted it. PS - I slagged off Greig and Lawry too but no one attacked me for that. Poor Tony and Bill - to think more people defend whatshername than them. PPS - Let's agree to difer shall we? The Aussies want a token female, the Brits don't. Let's leave it at that.
You're not a Ned are you?

Yes they are idiots in Britain too - but at least if we say rude things we get our facts right! PS - you avoided my question - is Stephanie? popular because of her looks or her talent?
Really? Your idiots seem to be a bit more celebrated in that many of them become celebrities over there, especially in the music field. Have you been to Australia? You won't sell the "We have idiots here, but at least they get their facts right" argument to too many people who have actually visited your country. From what I have seen an idiot is an idiot no matter where they come from.

In a world cricketing commentary first, Channel Nine are going to have three commentators on air (instead of the normal two) each 30 minute stint. I wondered how Nicholas, Benaud, Lawry, Greig, Healy, Chappell, Slater, Taylor, Healy and Tufnell were all going to fit. Well, it seems this is how.

Two's company. Three's a crowd.

Too many cooks spoil the broth.

Too many chiefs, not enough Indians.

Well I'm not really surprised because I thought Nine were overstaffed - a remark about Ashes commentators that DIDN'T get me into trouble! I'd love to know how they will all get a word in edgeways - since Sky has its own commentators us Brits won't find out - could Aussie members tell us once the action starts if it works or is it a case of too many cooks? The interesting point is quite often Nine leads and other networks follow - so maybe Sky will have three commentators together next summer? At least that will get RGD Willis back into Test commentary which is a good thing IMO...

Cracking thread.

Now I'm not PC, in fact my missus would probably tell you I'm quite the ***ist, but I don't see the problem with a woman commentating? It doesn't bother me at all.Imagine if Sky had never employed Georgie Thompson. My life would have followed a completely different, purer path. Anyway I digress. It matters not whether they have a ****** or not, but in fact how well they talk a game of Cricket.

No point me saying much more because for once I actually agree with the Aussie clan in this thread, on the most part. I'm all for taking the vote back off them, but let them commentate.

Gordon McQueen’s daughter does nights occasionally and she is a ****ing stunning piece of work. By far the best girl on SSN. Quite partial to Georgie though, her voice is rather masculine but maybe because I’m a perv but she does seem extremely sleazy, its like I’m watching channel 906 or something.

So how did the three tv commentators work?

I watched but listened to the ABC. Is it my imagination or is the sync betweed the radio voices and the tv pictures out of wack even more this year?
