Areas of improvement for current test sides

Redbacks

International Captain
Haddin in Adelaide also? Might be other cases.

Australia would close the gap to the top teams if they could:

Handle the swinging/moving ball better,
Leave the ball alone early on in innings,

Despite all the bad bowling performances, if we didn't fall over like a house of cards once a test we would have had much better results over the past 2 years.

The Tiger King
I don't think he really meant "areas for players to improve in" though; he meant theoretical players that could be brought in to strengthen the eleven. Unless you're suggesting that Pakistan drop half their side and replace them with specialist catchers.. :p
I think one or two specialist catchers will actually help the team.

So many matches that we have lost (or failed to win) due to our poor catching

Australia could do with a good, solid, expereinced opening batsman...someone like the retired Simon Katich. Oh hang on, he was dropped in favour of prolific test openers such as Phil Hughes.

I'd be interested to know how many bad bowling performances haven't been preceded by a bat batting performance. Brisbane, Lord's come to mind... what else?

For RSA now, a keeper and a number 6. Prince has averaged less than 35 for the past 2 years (16+ test matches).

Philander and Tahir still unproven and so is Rudolph as an international cricketer.

Here we go again...

India's wishlist
  1. An all-rounder for the top six. Sooner than later. Forget Yuvraj, Kohli, Raina, Pujara, Rohit, Rahane- get an all-rounder. If those blokes really, really want to be India regulars, they should start bowling thirty overs an innings, or crank up their batting to number four quality.
  2. Alternatively, a supply line of bowlers who can score runs- or at least use them to good effect. No more tail end bunnies, please!
  3. Lock the revolving door of selections, notably pace. And weld it shut. Don't change the core group for five years.
  4. Pick the best spinners, all attacking, trying for wickets.
  5. Pick teams largely based on domestic experience (minimum fifty FC and List-A games) and pedigree, and look at the IPL as a bonus. Do away with youth bias and clout!
  6. A current senior player on the verge of retirement should be promoted to the role of coach.

NZ has many problems.

If I could add only one player it would be an opening bowler who could average around 23-24.

If I could add a second player it would be an opening bat who could average 45.

I'm not convinced Haddin's a problem yet though. The fact that he's on the wrong side of 30 does not mean he isn't allowed to have a drop in form for a couple of series without it being terminal. About three Tests ago people were still talking about him in World XI terms.
Not with any justification whatsoever.

If we get a group of people talking about Saj Mahmood in World XI terms it wouldn't make him any less ****.

Re: England, we need some experienced batting depth. First reserve atm is His Mediocrity Ravi Bopara, and past that there's no one, except maybe Carberry and then a bunch of uncapped kids.

I think Taylor is probably worthy of a better description than "uncapped kid", true as it might be. Most countries would love to have a technically adept 21 year old with 4500 First Class runs in a strong domestic structure at an average of 50 as their first reserve, I'd imagine.

True, I wasn't having a go at him. Just pointing out that there's very little Test experience to draw on. It's a nitpick I admit.

It's rather amusing to read the previous posts and not see much of England mentioned in there. For a change we are in the middle of a fairly stable period.

If we are talking about wishes and what we would love to see. I would love to see a genuine pace-bowling all-rounder. A new and less injury prone 'Freddie Flintoff' a genuine match turner or partnership breaker.
