Are India becoming a super-power in cricket?

Interesting tidbit, but India actually have the third best away from home record in test matches in the last 8 years (behind Aus and SA). And the fifth best at home record (behind Aus, SA, SL and England).

This is going by W/L percentages... haven't actually looked at series.

 They'll be considered number one when they've started beating teams away from home consistently as Australia has certainly set a high standard. I'd say they're definitely looking like the next best thing right now, 8-) but they have a lot of work ahead of them. Sachin may very well be retiring within a year or so, but I believe they have enough fire power in their "bench" to remain one of the strongest teams in all forms of cricket, and being a Pakistani, that's not easy for me to say.:happybday

Nicely played.

One series of beating Australia at home doesn't make them the best. They just recently lost in both Sri Lanka and Australia, and as long as they are unable to be consistent outside, I can't rate them highly. South Africa will be more on track if they do well against Australia this winter.

Oh, I see, he's so serious about the subject, he's even corrected the grammar of the title! Good for him. Frankly, the Indians would be a much-improved team if they had more multi-skilled players in their team- not necessarily genuine all-rounders like Botham, Hadlee, Kapil and Imran, but at least playing XI quality in one skill and decent in the other.

Harbhajan and Zaheer Khan have also displayed some sort of aptitude with the bat.

I think ultimately it must come down to consistency. And fielding. It's kind of funny how many dropped catches and mishaps there were in the Nagpur test - considering we actually won that game!
