Meh, prices will go up heaps once prize money goes out. Figured I'd get a decent player while the prices were at the same level.

What's with all these outlandish transfer fees, then? Loads of newbies?

Same thing just happened on Hattrick - my deadwood are selling for ridiculous amounts.

I think if you can sell someone for more than you bought them for, it's a good buy, and with respectable+ players generally this is the case. I also tend to find that when I set myself bidding limits, I invariably exceed them if I get into a bidding war. I expect prices to skyrocket early next season or whenever the prizemoney gets paid out (the new youth academy system might contribute as well), so I'll probably list a few players at inflated prices.

Prize money gets paid out sometime after qualifiers, I think.

Anyway, my bowling attack:
(bowling/consistency/stamina)

Mills (proficient/respectable/mediocre)
Fallon (respectable/woeful/feeble)
Hignett (competent/woeful/respectable)
Payton (competent/competent/woeful)
Gill (competent/abysmal/mediocre)

Magrat Garlick

Rather Mad Witch
Mine:

(bowling/consistency/stamina)

Tuck (strong/superb/mediocre)
Harris (proficient/competent/feeble)
Fear (proficient/abysmal/mediocre)
Beechers (respectable/feeble/woeful)
Lewis (mediocre/proficient/woeful) or Wrigley (competent/woeful/mediocre) - depending on whether I want batting or bowling, currently want batting so Lewis.

Is it a good idea to be selling players who get in my first team? Or just people I've trained but don't get in my team?

Well I wouldn't really bother training anyone who doesn't make your team in the first place, so I would sell them anyway. I wouldn't sell anyone good until you've got a pretty solid team - ideally you'd want everyone at least mediocre/competent in their main skill but I'm not sure what your team's like at the moment.

Since there are only 10 net sessions they are pretty valuable, so I would focus your training on young players who you expect will be a part of your team for 2-3 seasons at least; there's not much point in training a player for a season just to get him up to competent batting then realise he's only your 5th or 6th best batsman by then.

When selecting a side, when selecting the batters, is fielding important? Should fielding be taken into account? (for example, is Player A is slightly better than Player B batting wise (taking into account concentration, stamina etc) but Player B beats Player A by miles on the fielding, should I pick A or B?)

And does the same apply for bowlers with batting and fielding? Is it important for bowlers to be able to bat?

Cheers (I've decided the only way I'm going to get anywhere is to ask people who know).

EDIT: And that buy has turned out to be very good short-term. He's in by far the best bowling form out of my bowlers, and hence is probably going to be first on the team-sheet.

I'd usually go with the miles better fielder, but it depends exactly how much better the batting would be as well. There's no easy answer on this, it's just personal preference really because it's almost impossible to know exactly what effect extra fielding has. I presume also that these betters are going to be lower order, which increases the importance of fielding because the guy is less likely to bat anyway.

its only the same as you would select a side in real life, its a question of balance - you obviously don't want a side of rubbish fielders but you aren't going to leave an Inzi out. Similarly you'd like your bowlers to bat but its not that important - if you have a good top order there not likely to get more than a couple of bats a season.

I would say fielding is more important than having tailenders who can bat - i don't have anyone below woeful in my side, a few respectables and some competents.

Cheers you two, it's just I've got this guy who's average at best with both bat and ball (wouldn't get in side on either, useful bits and pieces player I s'pose) but he's a brilliant fielder, might not include him then.

If Battrick gave 4 catches a match to good fielders, I might have done.

Money trouble or not, couldn't resist buying a batsman for £1000, and he's now my best batsman quite easily, he's 19 as well so I'll get a bit of training out of him. Bargain I thought.

1000 is nothing to spend on a good player really. What are his stats like?

Haha, I just went to search for Francis Francis, can't believe there's three of them. Did he only just pop to respectable? Very sneaky ash. :p

BTW Halsey, what's that guy's fielding level at?

Robertinho

Ash, I'll play you.

Can someone tell me if this guy is close to popping:

Plays For: Robertinho Select XI
Nationality: Australia
Age: 24 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 3,533
Wages: £720 p/w

Stamina: feeble Wicket Keeping: woeful
Batting: respectable Concentration: feeble
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: abysmal
Fielding: woeful

In batting. Has got no training this season.

Adamc

He won't be close to popping Rob, wages need to be >£1,000 for him to be close to proficient since he hasn't had training.

Just noticed that I had two guys pop in experience yesterday. Cuss had his second experience pop this season, so obviously ODI's have quite a big effect on experience.
