Yea, dire squad there.

At this point I usually recommend buying in a load of solid 17yo players for peanuts, but players (all of them) age within a week, so it's a difficult choice what you do. What happens because of this aging is young players go cheap because they age shortly and people hold out til after that happens. So there'll be bargains over the next few days but you won't necessarily be able to identify them (you can judge how high up a level players are from wages).

This is what I mean by cheap solid young players by the way:

Rocky Zuma £6,000 (CrikeyAust)
Plays for: Stella Verde Cricket Stamina: feeble W/Keeping: mediocre
Age: 17 years old Batting: mediocre Concentration: competent
BT Rating: 4,810 Bowling: worthless Consistency: worthless
Deadline: 06/01/2007 20:04 Fielding: mediocre

He's better than virtually all of your squad and there'll be plenty of players like that around going for practically nothing. Avoid players like this:

Shafiq Anjum £100,000 (The Brinning Boys!)
Plays for: Jeanz Stamina: abysmal W/Keeping: woeful
Age: 17 years old Batting: worthless Concentration: worthless
BT Rating: 3,408 Bowling: proficient Consistency: worthless
Deadline: 07/01/2007 1:59 Fielding: worthless

If you trained those two players with the same number of nets (the second one needs more fitness training) they end up about the same really, except the latter one is completely awful for ages against any team, can't field and costs more.

Thanks for the help Scaly. :)

Judging from what was said in the newbie thread (they said some of it was outdated but I don't know whether this particular bit was or not), would it be a good idea to get a lot of older players who would be good short-term buys in for peanuts?

As long as they're better than what you've got at the moment then yea, trainees are a higher priority tho, you've basically got no-one at the moment.

I think the wages update along the age, should be within a week anyway.

Ok then, I'll get some older players in for cheap now until the ages are updated then get some trainees in I think.

EDIT: Ignore this edit, completely forgot Scaly's post further up this page.

I'm not really used to the market - what's a good price for the "solid" player Scaly posted earlier on, do you reckon?

EDIT: In the unlikely event that anyone would want to play me, is there anyone without a friendly atm?

<10k. If one goes above that, there will be another along shortly who won't. Patience is the key, of which I have none.

EDIT: That Zuma character is a very nifty purchase at 13k.

Git. :p

Just won the player for £13000. Ah well, it's not tragic, there's always a next time I suppose...

EDIT: Just seen your edit. Thanks Pete, pleased I didn't make an arse move first up. :)

Steven Binnion - fire
Liam Breedt - keep
Simon Bruce - keep for his keeping for now
Pete Hatred - keep
Ainsley Jenkins - fire
Pete Laws - def keep
George Littlefair - keep
Joe London - fire
Arthur Maidens - fire
Phil Martyn - fire
Richard Mbeki - fire
Maqsood Mcgowan - fire
Ainsley Miles - fire
Gregory Norton - keep
Brad Parr - keep
Robert Ricketts - keep
Roland Schofield - fire
Maxwell South - crap but keep him
Keith Storey - keep

Obviously only guidelines but there's some people it just isn't worth keeping. Be aware that you aren't allowed below 14 players but I reckon from looking at the transfer market, you could have all mediocre/comp players by end of tomorrow for less than 100k. Then you can fire all the dross. Don't bother listing people as it's very unlikely they will buy.

Thanks for that Pete, will follow your instructions to the word. :)

My bowling definitely needs adding to.

I do have a dilemma I need help on - my 3rd best bowler is my best WK and my 5th best batsman (by my calculations using some general guidelines on the weightings recommended for each primary/secondary) - how do I play him? He obviously can't bowl and keep wicket.

Personally I'd try and sell that guy with proficient keeping and competent stamina (list him for 200k, then just keep listing him for smaller amounts til he sells), if I remember rightly he's a crap batsman so he's only any use as a keeper - but since you've got Zuma now you're sorted for a w/keeper and w/keepers are nice to train. So basically leave yourself 15 players in your squad otherwise you won't be able to list him each time. You may as well pile 5/6 nets on Zuma, get another trainee to pile the rest of your nets into (preferably a bowler or all-rounder) before monday then leave any more trainee purchases til after the aging. Then after the aging pick up another two-three trainees.

Well you know more about it than me. :p

EDIT: Scaly, ye I might try and sell him once I've got another purchase, I'm down to 14 players for now. Thanks for the help people. :)
