Flower is probably one of those players that would be rated a lot higher if he was from a big 3 nation. I’d rate him higher than any English bat since Barrington apart from maybe Root

Flower faced much, much weaker competition on the whole. Also England batting conditions are generally harder as well, so for those reasons even though the comp looks close at face value, I think it's a very easy Root win for batting quality.

As I've said before, I'm not as dogmatic about 1 or 2 ranking spots meaning one is better than another. I have them in the same tier though.
