Andre Adams - first 100!

I wonder how much you can read into him coming in and slogging away against an attack spearheaded (!) by Ottis Gibson (who only came here to coach, but the attack was that weak that he donned the whites after 3 years out of the game) though?
I would have thought it was to injury?

Ottis Gibson you mean?

It was because they had nobody else, and so he had to return after that long out!

Sajid Mahmood scored 94 off only 66 balls earlier this season at no.10

One score means nothing no matter how good / fast it is. Lets see what else Adams does over the next month at least before everyone lauds him.
Like what Tim said - nobody is lauding him!

This innings is merely an indication of how good he could be. I never suggested he's the ghost of Don Bradman. I don't know why some of you are so willing to knock a guy off his perch. Well played Andre.

I don't think it really is much of a surprise that Ponting got a century in a 2nd division match.

Well Ricky Ponting got a century on county debut too.

Surprised nobody mentioned it.
Given Ponting's Test form in the last 3 years it would be a surprise if he didn't average about 100 in his time at Somerset.
And something of a disappointment to him, I imagine.

Been somewhat of an impressive return, though, eh?

Isn't it infinately more likely that it's yet another demonstration of the appallingly low standard of county-cricket?

Considering how long he's been out of FC Cricket I can only assume so.

I posted a list of the Warwickshire Batting averages this season - something like 8 averaging over 50 with the bat.

I know we have been getting big scores recently, but that is ridiculous!

We all remember the Edgbaston Test pitch last season - I can only assume we've been getting more of the same, and are likely to get a repeat next Thursday.
Anyway, nice first and foremost to see Powell in the runs once again; Knight's been doing it almost without fail in the First-Class-game in the last few seasons; Bell's recovered his First-Class form, thank God; Wagh has done well despite opening the batting, IMO not his best position in the First-Class game; Trott has managed a stack of runs, yet another South African being allowed in and cashing-in, while stealing Dominic Ostler's place; just a shame Douglas Brown has got the runs while Troughton has got, relatively speaking, sod-all!
Even Bradley Hogg's done very well with the bat, though that's not as much of a surprise to me as it might be to some. What's surprised me most is not how penetrative his bowling hasn't been, but how expensive it has been.
