(His average to the end of his career from that date which is 98 matches long is 368W @22.58 that is a Steyn/Lillee/Akram/Hadlee career)

I think people underestimate Anderson because for half his very long career he was nothing particularly special (though still better than other English bowlers), but when he became top class he stayed that way for longer than most people's careers.

I'm gonna extend the period Athlai is mentioning by a bit to the point right before the natural late career decline, if you add in away and Neutral (UAE, which is away for him), it's 22.6 in this 85+ match period

Only a bit over 3WPM though, which is a bit meh but still great overall numbers.

With due consideration for his longevity, I would have gone with Anderson before the recent B-G trophy. Bumrah having that kind of series takes him into rarefied territory. Only a select few in history have been capable of that kind of quality. It is comfortably Bumrah now imo.

Bumrah for me, though overall close on career. No one I have ever mate rates Marshall over Anderson for longevity last I checked ftr.

Now if someone wants to argue that the qualitative gap between Bumrah and Jimmy is similar to that of SRT and Viv, I will be extremely interested.
