Analyzing Sehwag's batting

yeah, but he is just so frustrating. If he didn't have the add on of his bowling, we can at least drop him... But we may find it hard to get another guy to fill in the void that will be left by him overall. And, he is our vice captain too. Somebody needs to figure out what is to be done with him and that, soon... Maybe just ask him to keep opening in ODIs and work on him and hope he learns with experience?

Someone has to convince him that he has to play the anchor role for India from now on. Tendulkar and Dravid are already mature enough batsmen to understand that, but guys like Sehwag and Dhoni need to be spoonfed that crucial message.

The thing is not abt them continuing to attack or defend. They just have to pick the right balls to hit and work on their overall stroking ability. Dhoni can't do anything to back of length balls at the moment. He has his area and when the ball is there he can hit it. The trouble is he can either block it or hit it but cant push it for 1s and 2s. This is where they have to improve.

He'd get bigger scores if he played for them and as someone said, add some analytical thought (or big-innings thinking) and (obviously) run more singles, while the big-hitting should be taken up by Dhoni, Pathan and Powar. He doesn't have a second skill that counts, so he has to do a lot more as a batsman.

Oh yes certainly Dhoni, Yuvi, Tendulkar, Ganguly (who has the record for the third highest number of sixes all time), Pathan are certainly study batsmen who haf low strike rates and barely hit boundaries.

Personally, I think Dhoni got off to a really good start and began to think that he can dominate every team in the world. Not exactly. Sachin, Yuvraj, Dhoni and now Raina are all explosive batsmen. Dravid has improved and Kaif is no longer a regular so that certainly isn't a reason for him to feel pressured. He just doesn't use his brain enough when he bats. He can certainly block out those inswinging deliveries on off-stump or play them away for a single, but he chooses to go for expansive drives and tries to become a hero. His average doesn't do justice to his talent.

He did do that at times but generally, if you look at the way he bats, he is not someone who gets in and immediately gets the singles away, which is a skill you NEED at 7, which is where he bats. He takes a few balls to get in and those few balls are generally dot balls and I think that puts pressure on him to have to go for the big shots. If he can get his eye in by taking singles, which is how most lower middle order guys in other teams go, he can give himself more time to get settled and only then go for the big shots. Get time to start moving his feet et al, u know...

Dhoni is one of the quicker runners-between-the-wickets in international cricket today.

Sehwag is great on flat tracks -- I am still not convinced of his ability to play in truly unfriendly conditions.


Plus, he desperatly needs to do something regarding his second innings play.

Inzi is fat, and slow, but he still runs the runs. So why should Sehwag be excused from it for being slow?

Lately, in test cricket, if I'm not mistaken it has been either a feast or a famine indicating that the eyes may not be as sharp as they once were.

However, as you point out, his so-called weakness is rarely exposed thereby confirming the small margin of errors allowed by high quality test batsmen.

It has always been that with sehwag. Either you get him inside 10 -20 runs or you get him after 150.
