No idea. Lara was an all-time great Test player, but merely an exceptional ODI one.Why is everyone picking Lara?
No one bowls short in ODIsBecause he kills short stuff
Yep. Lara - one of the all-time most over-rated one day batsmen. And he was still ****ing awersome. Why is everyone picking Lara?
Don't think there's anyone who would qualify as a bowling all-rounder yet averages 30+ with bat other than Imran and possibly Klusener (who I am not sure is bowler primarily)Imran in an all time ODi side = fail.
My second XIWe did an all time 50 greatest ODI players quite recently and I think overall the players up the top were the best.
My team would be:
1. Adam Gilchrist
2. Sachin Tendulkar
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Viv Richards
5. Dean Jones
6. Michael Bevan
7. Shaun Pollock
8. Wasim Akram
9. Joel Garner
10. Muttiah Muralitharan
11. Glenn McGrath
Jones is probably the big shock, but what a player he was.
His strike rate is a big fail for a #7 in an all time ODI side. And he doesn't have the lead over the other contenders as a bowler in ODIs that he does in Tests.Don't think there's anyone who would qualify as a bowling all-rounder yet averages 30+ with bat other than Imran and possibly Klusener (who I am not sure is bowler primarily)
Except Johnson, but I don't think he means to
Yes that's true. Slotting him as a #7 (or anywhere in the batting) in an all time XI will be hard. There have been surprisingly few successful all-rounders in ODIs. Perhaps Jayasuriya is the best bet to cover the 5th bowler's option. His strike rate is a big fail for a #7 in an all time ODI side. The sad thing about LO cricket though, is "bowlers" who would be considered a joke in test cricket are often very effective. One of the more annoying thing about it.You can't seriously be calling Viv Richards an allrounder? He's competing for a spot with Botham, Hadlee, Flintoff etc?
I'd also have included Dessie Haynes in the list of possibles.
Anyway, that aside... my xi :
Adam Gilchrist *
Sachin Tendulkar
Viv Richards
Dean Jones
Michael Hussey
Michael Bevan
Shaun Pollock
Wasim Akram
Shane Warne
Joel Garner
Dennis Lillee
a bit heavy on Australians in the middle order, but the running between the wickets would be something to behold!
second xi :
Matthew Hayden
Gordon Greenidge
Jacques Kallis
Brian Lara
Martin Crowe
MS Dhoni *
Imran Khan
Richard Hadlee
Saqlain Mushtaq
M Muralitharan
Glenn McGrath
Actually, I don't think he was. Was very good, but I don't think he belongs near an ATG ODI side.Yep. Lara - one of the all-time most over-rated one day batsmen. And he was still ****ing awersome.
Not if he's being picked to play in the top 3:Yep. Lara - one of the all-time most over-rated one day batsmen.
Wat?Not if he's being picked to play in the top 3:
He's one among two batsmen (along with Tendulkar) who have batted 100 innings in top 3 with a batting average of 45 and a strike rate of 80 !!!

In fact, he was BY FAR the best ODI batsman in the world in the early-to-mid 90s when he batted at no. 1, 2 or 3...much much better than Tendulkar...
