Am I missing something?

Because it apparently works on a consistent system.
And because everyone wants a way to do what is not possible. Well, almost everyone.
Because I don't believe there should be an attempt at one. I've said that enough times, so stop asking a question I have answered perfectly satisfactarily.

you arent that bothered by the ratings and dont agree there should be ratings...and yet you felt strongly enough to question why Oram was ranked 9th.

Wouldn't injuries/bans be playing a major role in Oram getting as high as 9th?

Bond, Warne, Harbhajan, Zaheer, Shoaib, etc.

or maybe rankings go on current form instead of career. orams average and rpo in the past year or two would be substancially better than that. average particully

Bond, Warne and Shoaib maybe, but Khan and Harbhajan are no way top-10 material.
Sadly, Khan is another who is immensely flattered by his ODI average.

Wrong.
Oram's TVS Cup produced an ER of about 6.5-an-over and 1 wicket in the whole tournament.
About the worst tournament I've ever seen a bowler have.

It was simply yet another demonstration of the absurdity of the things.
Not anything especially with Oram.

marc has repeated the same rubbish time and again.
I haven't managed to bore him out of it - maybe I can shock him out of it?
God knows, I doubt it. It seems to be all he's got left to cling to.

It's often been stated on here, that when someone starts to lose the discussion they resort to insults...

Personally I would consider 4.5 to be a reasonable economy rate. Pitches these days are made to suit batting and scores of 250 plus are the norm. The number of scores above 300 is also on the increase.

Front line bowlers should aim for less than 4.5 and part timers should look for less than 6.

Oram is a handy all-rounder but I can't agree with his ranking of 9 as a OD bowler.

To me anything under 4 is great, 4.5 an over is pretty good bowling, while 4.5-4.6 is acceptable enough for me.

Set as much high standards, even if you are playing against Australia. It is the only way you will do well.

The quality of the pitch doesn't make it any harder to bowl well.
Accurate bowling isn't going to get hit around no matter how fast, slow or inconsistent the pitch, nor how much the ball is moving sideways, unless the batsmen use their feet. If you bowl at the right pace, you can stop that happening.
Though of course all of the above help.

It's been stated often in many places that when someone has to resort to repeating the same stuff in an attempt to make it true (all the stuff along the lines of "you make your mind up about a player then look for evidence") they are losing the argument.

Sounds like both sides of many arguments to me...
