Alternatives to replacing Kallis

Would tend to agree with this

I'd use Chris Morris as the fourth seamer. He's a genuine allrounder and is very pacey, with the right attitude for the longer format.

Petersen
Smith
Amla
Rossouw/DeKock/Elgar
De Villiers
JP
Faf
Morris
Philander
Morkel
Steyn

That is a pretty menacing side. Crazy strong batting line up, and intimidating bowling
That is one awsome team. best of both worlds if you ask me. Also i have a feeling once Parnell figures out what position he is good enough to bat in he will excell. particularly in one day cricket. but for the test team Morris should get the gig. he has the tools for the job no doubt. But then again this only happens if Ab keeps. reading between the lines, he seems to be enjoying it. long may it last.

What they don't want to do is make the same mistake that England made trying to replace Botham and Australia did with Warne by having a revolving door with players getting 2 or 3 matches at best to become a world beater. I hope the South Africans are wise enough to learn from the mistakes of others if only for the players sake.

Luckily we do not lack test ability batsmen. Replacing him as a batsman will not be that difficult if you concede that the new bat will average 10 less and just be an okay test batsman. I do however think we need another fast bowling all-rounder apart from Philander.

I also support the idea that the spinner needs to be a batting all-rounder that plays ahead of the wicket-keeper in the batting order.

And alternatively; difference is that Woakes doesn't play park cricket that has FC status.
Yeah Morris has only played seven games that are in any way meaningful. Took a stack of wickets in them but didn't do anything with the bat.

I'm a big fan anyway though. I like the idea of NasserFan's team for home matches at least once Kallis goes, but with a keeper slotting in at seven and the rest of the middle order moving up one each rather than a dogfight for #4.

Yeah. Disagree with him on having De Kock at 4. The keeper should ideally come in at 7, ahead of your bowling all-rounder and right after the batting all-rounder. If he's a better bat than De Villiers then De Villiers needs to keep the gloves. I already feel that De Villiers comes in far too early and should shift at least one down in the current order.

In south african conditions Duminy will do. Morris has the tools to play test cricket. i believe that he can average around 25 in tests with the bat. add his bowling and we have a potent 4 man pace attack. as for De Kock imo he can only get into the side when ab does not want to keep.

Surely de Kock need to like actually have a spell of keeping before being pushed so far forwards?

Not even first choice for his domestic team so why on earth should he even be considered internationally?!

He has shown class as a bat. As a bat he should be given a go in at least the limited overs stuff. If it means that he'd make a better wicket keeper than De Villiers, apart from that fact - then he makes for a better choice as wicket keeper.

Most, if not all inclusions of him in the team, is 80% based on his batting prowess.

Currently keeping for the Lions at the moment De Kock and done fairly well. Only one mistake I saw on a live television game.

Been a touch inconsistent with the bat but that hundred he scored was something else.

Can't judge batting consistency on the shorter forms, imho.
Why not? Its all relevant as well. If he wants to play ODI cricket for South Africa he needs to perform there. Not that he hasn't performed, he just needs to be slightly more consistent, kick on from those 20s and 30's.

I also like to think that I can judge a player from watching them bat in either 50-over or FC cricket because you still need to spend time at the crease. Also, Quinton is the sort of player that won't change his game really from List A to FC cricket.

He is still young and extremely talented. His time will come but will serve his apprenticeship first in franchise cricket.

Yes, but the point is how good will he be with the bat when burdened with keeping full time - if someone like AB de Villiers struggles (and a lot of others have been seen too, Stewart, Sangakkara, etc.) - what makes everyone think he will be such a star when it's not been tested out yet?
