Waugh is better against WI overall. Border's home record is a bit weak by ATG standards and has a RPI under 45, quite lower than Waugh despite batting higher more often.
Maybe, but I rate Borders 1984 series better and even his 81. Holding and Garner were in ATG form on some very fast pitches

Overall it is incontestable that at worst, Border’s record is as good as Waugh’s(IMO it is better given Waugh had two clear dodgy countries) and Border has far more success up the order and faced tough attacks in all countries more or less

Waugh's home record is better and he is an ATG at SA as well. I definitely won't say it's not close between those two. Waugh gets way too underrated.

Nah his home record is not better. Both averaged the same and Border has series at home vs Hadlee(the 33 wickets one), 1981 vs WI etc

Also let’s just agree both are better than Ricky Ponting
You know how to make me go silent reallllyyyyyy well....... I voted Border for the matter and don't really think Waugh has enough of an advantage between two frankly very similar batsmen with quite similar records (favoured position, era, averages, balanced record across tough countries, standing up in crisis; had they managed the same record while opening they would be top contenders for best after Don); to be ranked ahead. Just think it's close between those two. Another argument in favour of Waugh is that he began his career as a bits and pieces all-rounder.

Border has an average of 45+ in 7 out 8 countries he played.

Border averaged 50+ against 5 out of 7 countries he played against.

Against WI, he averaged 39.4 in 31 Tests. Considering the stellar team they were during his time

In SA, he averaged 38 but he played just 3 Tests.

Against SA, he averaged 33 in 6 Tests.

Overall an excellent record.
