All-Time Zimbabwe XIs - A re-run

Ugh. Well, I was assuming no one else would vote for Johnson in the top slot on the list and then Johnson for the all rounder as backup. But…
That's fine. I will count his vote where he has the most votes, so voting for another player should be fine.

Brendan Taylor - 5
Tatenda Taibu - 2

(Re keeping, a few suggested Taylor as keep while a few Flower. We will vote for that.)

Sean Williams - 5
Sikander Raza - 1
Neil Johnson - 1

Kyle Jarvis - 5

Taylor to keep. Houghton to captain.

2nd XI Openers: Kevin Arnott and Tino Mawoyo.

Mawoyo may be a left field selection for some but I have a lot of time for him. His record is better than Gripper and Ebrahim and while Johnson and Whittall both opened they were more suited to the middle order. Mawoyo's ton was possibly the best innings by a black Zimbabwean.

2nd XI Middle order selections: Sean Ervine and Neil Johnson. Sean would have been at least as good as Williams and Taylor if he had played more international games.

I should add, Mawoyo has a better record that Campbell who continues to do a lot for cricket in Zim but never fulfilled his potential as a batsman.

Mawoyo categorically does not have a better record than Campbell. Nearly 50% of Campbell's Tests were away. Mawoyo only 3/11. Campbell's conversion rate was terrible but his record in India, for example, is in itself pretty much superior to Mawoyo's output. Campbell's record in the top order is noticeably better than his middle order record. Mawoyo may be let down by not getting to play enough, but them's the breaks when it comes to Zimbabwean cricket.

Whittall is an interesting call as opener. He didn't do it much and most of his runs there came in a home series against early Bangladesh with a terrible bowling attack (all bowlers averaged over 50!). Shouldn't be in the mix for opening IMO.

Houghton kept too, but only in ODIs. Dunno if he kept in 1st class before Zim got test status.

Anyway:

Taylor keeping

Houghton as captain

Campbell & Arnott

Craig Ervine & Gary Ballance
